Default trackstar plus - why so cheap?

Am I missing something? I think I paid around £600 for the installation of a trackstar protector 6 months ago when I bought my WRX (condition of insurance), then there is a recurring £120 annual subscription.

Now there is trackstar plus, which seems to offer all the benefits of protector (motion detection activation, GPS) for £299(and same subscription). And I can add Road Angel style camera detection for £72 per year

Isn't that an awfully big difference?

If I was thinking of getting a road angel anyway, wouldn't I almost be better off replacing my current trackstar with the plus for less money? Could I then sell on my protector?

Trackstar has come down in price from last year from £599 to £569

RAC Trackstar Plus £299
Installation £150
One year subscription £120

The safe speed option is £72 per annum or you can pay £6 per month DD
This extra is only available on new systems though and cannot be updated on older systems, which is a pity as this is a great cheap radar detector on the cheap!

but whats the difference between trackstar plus and trackstar/protector?

Why are they even still selling trackstar protector if plus offers more? I couldn't actually find anything other than trackstar plus on the trackstar website.

Maybe I'll install another one - that'd confuse any thieves!

Trackstar Standard
The Trackstar unit is activated as soon as the theft is reported to the Trackstar National Control Centre.

Trackstar Guardian
The Trackstar unit is automatically triggered as soon as the vehicle is moved without Trackstar first being disarmed. The Trackstar National Control Centre contacts the driver to advise that the car has been stolen.

Trackstar Protector
Same service as Trackstar Guardian, but the Trackstar unit is designed for vehicles already fitted with electronic immobilisers.
Unlike other tracking devices, the Trackstar unit can be transferred between vehicles, making it the most cost effective solution on the market.

Emergency and Breakdown option
If the unexpected happens, the driver can press the appropriate button to speak with an Emergency Services operator or an RAC operator. At the same time, the Trackstar unit sends a signal telling them of the vehicle’s location.

Default Trackstar

We are getting Trackstar fitted on our new Impreza on Thursday. The salesman mentioned something about a new product last Saturday but when we I rang him yesterday for info about the version of Trackstar we were getting - all he said was that it was Trackstar and it will be £450.00

So I guess I will have to wait and see what we get.
