SUBARU SLASHES PARTS PRICES BY UP TO 56 PER CENT
If you already know about this then Admin please delete the thread!
Subaru is slashing parts prices by up to 56 per cent in a bid to reduce owners’ maintenance bills, increase the use of genuine components and boost business.
This permanent initiative involves 200 individual part numbers and affects most models such as the iconic Impreza, sports-utility Forester and sporting executive Legacy.
It means that not only will ‘whole-life’ running costs take a tumble but insurance premiums could also fall due to lower accident repair bills.
Items covered include timing-belts, oil, air and fuel filters, water pumps, brake pads and discs and body parts such as wings, bonnets and bumpers.
Typical examples include a timing-belt for a 1992-98 naturally-aspirated Impreza 2.0 litre reduced from £77.47 to £35.85 – a cut of 54 per cent – and an oil filter for an Impreza, Legacy or Forester 2.0 litre reduced by 56 per cent to £4.50.
Brake pads for a 1997-8 Impreza 2.0GL will now cost £48.53 instead of £71.52 while a rear bumper cover for a 1999-2003 Legacy estate will retail for £152.28 – a 43 per cent reduction (all prices are excluding VAT and fitting).
In order to publicise the initiative, Subaru is launching a trade awareness campaign targeting independent repairers, all makes franchise dealers and fast-fit-type centres.
Subaru Parts Manager, Matthew Davies, said: "We aim to mail more than 10,000 price and information sheets as we are determined to expand the use of genuine Subaru parts.
"There are many benefits in choosing factory-quality parts including reduced fitting times and our comprehensive three year/60,000 warranty. Furthermore, despite our price reductions, dealer margins remain intact."
Subaru (UK) Limited has an inventory of more than £3.0 million with 21,000 stock lines. All dealers will be supplied with a parts kit to ensure ‘off-the-shelf’ availability, while genuine Subaru parts are available for overnight delivery.

Just rang a Subaru dealer and they've confirmed it. Its the wear & tear parts that tend to get replaced during services that have really gone down in price (e.g. belts, brake discs & pads, spark plugs, oil filters etc).

Nobody insulted your ZT260 that I saw and they'd be stupid to do so Jerry. As I said it's a nice car the best MGR make IMHO.
Thanks for the news, let's hope it true then I won't only have a fast reliable car, also one that's dirt cheap to repair should I have any mishaps.

Its called 'Block Exemption' this is now being implemented by many OE producers as the none genuine parts suppliers can sell back to dealers (always have been able to but its far more publisised now) Its mainly a con anyway as most OE suppliers have aftermkt ranges/brands-Dealerships are seeing margins being erroded and now realise that the revenue they were making on servicing has reduced, they therefore need to make the OE product more competitive to prevent the aftermarket influx+ they can sell back to garages and tuning centres thus competing with the traditional motor factor.

If they can afford to slash prices in such dramatic fashion, how can they justify having charged so much for so long??
So it's IM that's been pocketing our hard earned then? I accept that they're a business and they have to make money to survive but presumably even after making such big cuts they're not going to start losing money
Furthermore, despite our price reductions, dealer margins remain intact."

That's interesting. I got a quote for some new front brake discs and pads from an official Subaru dealer about 10 days ago. I just rang the same dealer to see how much cheaper the new prices would be. The difference didn't exactly blow me away:
A pair of front discs is now £124 instead of £145.
And a set of front brake pads is now £107 instead of £117.
That's only a 15% cut on the discs and a 8.5% cut on the pads. I have to admit I was quite hopeful on seeing this thread initially but it looks like it is still cheaper to go somewhere like Camskill for this stuff...
All prices quoted were for a 1999 Classic turbo model.

This move has to be good for the market as a whole, although I can see why people who've been content to pay IM prices in the past would be ticked off.

flame suit on *************
its a classic case of if your daft enough to pay the prices, we, (subaru)will take your money!!!
flame suit off....
joking aside, its nothing new dealers try to get you under the genuine / warrenty crap for years....
unless subaru own a brake manufacturing plant & can afford to squander sh*tloads of cash there is no way they would produce there own brake pads... if that was the case why dont we see 36+ brake pad manufacture,s all trying to sell you pads????
ferodo padgit brembo and ebc are the ones that spring to mind...
subaru ford rover renault,,, dont recall being offerd there brand pads at all..
honda did an announcement once, they had slashed 40% of a bulb they produced... it turns out they were making almost 90% profit due to the mark ups!!!
in all honesty i dont think the price reduction has sod all to do with IM reflecting on how the industry as a whole is,,,
The subaru ( impreza classic) is now comming up to roughly 8-10 yrs old and as such is classed as spares only production... ie all the dev & tooling, project funding has now been recouperated.. all subaru do now is collect profit on the dwindling sales.... bear in mind that once the last model of a vehicle rolls off the production line, the contract with suppliers is usually for an additional 10 years... hence rather than be left with loads of stock, they cant shift,, a price initiative is announced....
a large american oem now facelifts it vehicles every quater... makes for a nightmare when trying to locate spares!!!!! some are now classed as obsolete!!!
lets hope car mechanics article on scoob spares next month makes for interesting reading

Last time I looked, a set of front pads for an STi were £170 and they still are I believe. As for Subaru cutting their prices, I think you will find the initiative has come from Japan, not from the UK, and is Europe wide.

Price Cut???
I went to my local dealer on Sat am to price up a replacement instrumentation lamp - one of mine had blown. I was expecting a silly price even with discount, but to be quoted £45 inc vat was just breathtaking. Subaru don't supply single lamps you see, they supply lamps and lampholders in a set to replace all at the the same time, and there are 8 in the set. I sourced a replacement lamp from my local motor factor and it cost me 42 PENCE. Anyone still believe that we aren't being fecked up the @rse good and proper?

And to think that said discs and pads probably cost the dealer less than £120 all-in!
As to those thanking me for the link, no worries, pleased to share. Mart - it's worth giving them a ring if there's something you want that they don't list, as they do stock stuff that isn't on the web catalogue yet.
