with all the usual problems with sti8 battery problems, was told by subaru garage that if you have to dissconect battery you must follow a set routine step 1; undo bonnet step 2; lock car with key not remote!!!!, step 3, disconnect and remove battery, step 4 close bonnet, step 5; to put back reverse procedure. but i have never used this because i went out and bought a battery charger a lot easier hope this might help.

absolutely no porbs on a MY00, my battery was off for 4 weeks last year.

you will have to lock the doors manually though once removed.

I tried disconnecting mine (MY00) to swap ECUs a while back. Despite being disarmed the alarm went off. I reconnected the battery to stop it and decided to swap the ECUs without disconnecting it so as not to annoy the neighbours too much. I had been assured it was okay to swap ECUs provided the ignition was off.

So whilst on this subject and for future reference is there anything specific you need to do with the alarm on a MY00 to stop it going off when disconnecting the battery?

Graz.

basically, slacken the negative side of the battery, and then remove the terminal in one quick smooth action. Any hesitating and it can cause the alarma to go off, as it thinks the power supply is being tampered with is being tampered with.
