Default Fuel warning light

Was touching cloth for a while when the fuel warning light came on yesterday after the gauge suddenly seemed to go into freefall. Can anybody tell me the trigger point for the low fuel sensor?

Car is a 99 sti5.

You should have around 8 litres - almost 1.8 gallons (and you'll get the best fuel consumption you've ever had!!!)

Might come on with 40mls range left. Will be less if you push the pressed steel bracket down, more vertical, so as you delay the onset of fuel surge.
Oh.. could be less anyway if you are a boy racer or driving in heavy wn traffic.

Thanks Guys, don't want to get passed by anymore motorised bathchairs so in future won't stray beyond 40 miles of the nearest Shell station.
