Question Speeding - Recorded for possible use at a later date?

One the way home tonight I was pulled over on the A41 going from Aylesbury to Watford (not to far from the services, for those that know the road).

Yes I know I should have been watching the speed and yes I do put my hands up to having a heavy right foot at times. What can I say I am not angel.

The policeman asked me why we shouldn't give me three points and £60 fine to which I responded, "Because you are very nice and I am very sorry?".

It did raise a smile.

Now this is what I am curious about:

I got let off with a recorded warning. He took my details and said that they would be recorded in Hertfordshire and I was was noted for speeding then I could be summonsed.

Has anyone heard of this before or even know how long my details are held on the Herts Police computer?

A41's a terrible road for speed creep, nice sweeping bends and plenty of distance between the junctions. Have to admit I have made 'good progress' down there on a number of occasions .....

I think it basically means, that it is a caution, and your details are logged at the area police's file, if you are pulled over for speeding again in that area they will do you for both offences.

lucky git.

On the basis that they have to lay paers with court within six months of the offence, you will be away scott free after that time.

More likley explanation is that next time you get pulled you won't get a warning but will be prosecuted for the next offence at that time.

Either that, or it was a scare tactic.

MattW - I was thinking the same with the six months.

After all they can't hold records on certain crimes for ever and there is the Data Protection Act to consider, oh and my Human Rights as layed down in Europe!

He was a nice chap, although, rightly not impressed with my speed. He even commented about unmarked cars "cheating" to get speeders!

All round I think it was a very good result, especially when I got to work this morning and realised my speed had been on or around the limit for the whole journey, including the A41.

Well the Police came up behind me tonight overtook me slowly and the same Policeman gave me a smile and thumbs up and then moved in front of me.

My Dephi speedo was saying 69mph so I am thinking I was safe.

Shame about the BMW that tore past me a minute later with me behind and blocking his view of the police car... on came the lights and off he was.

I also saw the unmarked car on the other side of the road... nice dark blue Volvo, with a BMW driver sitting in the back.

Obviously rush hour is not the time to be a speed freak on the A41!

Is rush hour the time to be a speed freak anywhere? Takes me an hour to do the 8 miles from Clapham Junction to home! Takes 30 minutes on a push bike!

Maybe you should compare like with like though.

The A41 at the worst of times is a generally free flowing road. It is nice a nice duel carriageway with long sweeping bends, small hills and goes through what the South considers countryside. ()

It is not the middle of a congested and choked city were traffic hasn't speeded up since the horse.

As it has been commented by people that know the A41, it is very easy for your speed to creep up to and beyond the limit.

Each force has their own data base.

They will have put a note on there saying when and who stopped you and saying you have been warned about your speed and if you are stopped again for speeding you wont get a warning, because they know you already had one.

No if you nicked for speeding it is right there and then in the back of the police car.

Billythekid the question is though how long is that information held for? Six month would appear to be logical length as that is how long the authorities have to serve a summons with regard to speeding offense
