Unhappy no. plate fine. Help Please!

Ive just beenstopped and fined for having a small number plate on the front of my car. the plod video'd the plate with their in car camera and he then wrote me a ticket out for my £30 fine which hands up, ok the plate was small. Got home last night and looked at my ticket and found he had written the wrong registration down on it.. ive put my big plate back on already but was wondering about the fine. do i just pay it and say nowt or does this make the ticket void.
all advice welcome
thx
Andy

Out of interest how small was the plate?

I'm thinking about buying a 3/4 size for the front, and wondered if I would get away with it?

i think you should fit your proper sized numberplate and pay the fine

the plate sizes are like that for a reason, hence why you were fined

oh yeah bex im not disputing the fact my plate was small and it was a 3/4(to answer nevetas's question)its just the ticket itself must be void if it was filled in wrongly. theyve got my name and address cos i gave him it while he wrote it down so they know who i am and my proper reg from the video but he wrote the last 2 letters down in the wrong order

Which proves the point as to why plod have to go round in twos - you got the one who's good a numbers writing down the reg - not the one good at letters !

You lucky so and so.
Guess what i just checked my £30 on the spot ticket and the registration is correct!
Consider yourself lucky, a few miles later i got done for speeding aswell!

I doubt whether the video footage will be kept more then 28 days if that. Have a chat with your solicitor.

I suggest you totally ignore the ticket.

It makes loads of paperwork, and if the details are wrong anyway, it makes it harder again.

Did you sign your ticket where it says 'request' if you did, dont do it again.

If you didnt well done.

Bin it, and erase from your memory........

You werent driving at the time anyway !.........were you ?

Or better still, don't send off to ticket, don't produce your driving licence, insurance and MOT within 7 days. Then wait until you get a summons from the court for the small number plate and not producing your documents, then get a bigger fine AND some points and increase you insurance premium, all for not sending off 30 quid

Hang on.

Who said anything about producing any documents?

He didnt get a producer, did he?

If he got a ticket for a none DVLA friendly plate, then he sends that ticket off with a cheque for the £30 to the addy on the back, or he asks to go to court to say his piece, or he puts it in the bin.

I advocate the later.

But I am a bit fick......

Yoza,

If he got a fixed penalty notice ticket, it would have come with a HO/RT1 (ie a producer) already printed on the form. If he was reported for summons (and this doesn't appear to be the case) he would have still got a HO/RT1. If he got a Vehicle Defect Retification System form, he still would have got a HO/RT1. Unless he produced all his documents at the side of the road.

Hope this helps (and your not fick )

I had a very similar incident and got stopped for not wearing a seatbelt. Lost the original bit of paper and had to ring up and try and pay after they try and find the ticket. Long and short of it was that they couldnt find the ticket so I couldnt pay.

In the end it turns out the last two letters were wrong. I got the pink nasty letter and in the end they dropped it because I complained like f*ck. But if you gave them your details they obviously know where you live. If I had been able to pay it when I got done I would have because it was a fair cop so to speak.

Default Got done a few months back...

Alright mate,

I got done a few months back, third time out in the car for having a small plate. Unmarked car pulled me for being courteous to other drivers at a junction!

Was a bit pi**ed off at the time but after a bit of advice on the situation I wrote a letter of appeal. Ended up receiving the letter back as they wanted me to write else where.

Doing so, I had to wait on them getting back to me and I eventually got a reply saying I could not argue the point so thought oh well, go pay the fine.

So sent the cheque away and a few days later I received a letter back (along with the cheque) saying they had recorded I had sent the cheque but now I've to appear in court!

Oh lucky me!

And to think how much this costs in admin etc (and prob my pocket)to do so over a bloody small regi plate.

So I would prob advise to just pay it mate or at least go in and speak to a copper in the traffic dept. Get his name and number though.

good luck!

On a similar them I once had a producer (for all documentation), the WPC who wrong my reg down, did it incorrectly, she then realised her mistake and changed one of the letters. It was obvious on the form and black thick lines stood out a mile off.

After getting all the documentation to a police station I was almost done for alerting the form! The WPC couldn't remember (it was about 2 hours after!), so they checked the carbon copy and found the change there too.

thx everyone for ya time replying. i never actually got a producer he just wrote me the ticket bit like a parking ticket type and said post off ya 30 squid with the slip inside to address on it

that was that. i dont mind paying it like ya say its only £30 and my plate was small but i just thought someone might have had a similar incident or there might be a copper who drives a scooby who may reply on here as they ought to know what happens if they make a **** up on a form.
i could also spend that £30 on petrol get me another100 mile down the road
THX AGAIN

I'd pay the ticket if I were you. If you dont pay within 28 days it goes up to £60 and is registered at court as a fine. If you dont pay it then, eventually a warrant will be issued for your arrest!
If you fill in the form requesting a court case, then be prepared to lose. Your only hope is that if they issue you with a summons, it has the wrong number on it. I would imagine they will have realised their mistake by then and put the correct number on the summons.
You might have stood a chance had it not been videoed. To save you a lot of hassle and probably unnescessary expense just pay the fine.
