Default Adviced needed for buying new scoob please

Hi All.

I have owned an STi Version 3 for 4 years & now sold it. I am looking for a new Scoob but these are my main requirements/questions if someone can help I would really appreciate it. There are so many versions now (UK/JAP) etc 6 speed , 5 speed hi/low output I am getting confused!! I just need to know what model/version to go for so I can start looking and not wasting peoples time. I am looking at approx £15K

1, The car would need to be at least a 2001 (Bug Eye Shape).
2, I am used to the performance of my STi3 so would not want to drop.
3, I do alot of motorway miles so would love the 6 speed box.
4, Want the BIG Spoiler on the back, not the tiny flat one.
5, Would I need Optimax for UK Models or just Jap?.
6, Is there anything I should steer clear of?.

They are the main questions I need answering before I can make a decision

Many Thanks In Advance!

OK - here goes - I've had mine ( MY02 STI PPP) for 4 weeks so not the most qualified of posters:

Not sure what your ST3 had - the STI PPP is 262 bhp in unmodified format.
It has 6 speed box
It has the big spolier your'e looking for
I use SUL - optimax preferably (BP ultimate at a push)

Subaru Dealers are lisiting them at £18-19k for a 20k mls one keeper with balance of warranty. You should be able to get discount cos there are a few around. Private sale should be nearer your £15k.

Good luck

thanx m8, my sti was 308bhp, but I have been reading around & to get up to 300 again wouldn't be hard, so not a prob on the power. So am I asuming yours is an import or not?

Wow, those two requirements together are going to be difficult to reconcile. The new shape cars are quite a lot heavier than the classics, which means you need more power and better brakes to get the same feelings under acceleration/deceleration.

3, I do alot of motorway miles so would love the 6 speed box.
STi of some sort then.

4, Want the BIG Spoiler on the back, not the tiny flat one.
2002MY STi Type UK Prodrive style, 2003MY STi Type UK, or 2003 JDM STi then.

5, Would I need Optimax for UK Models or just Jap?.
What? You ideally need Optimax for the UK cars. For the Japanese ones, it's Optimax plus a good octane booster. You should have been running your STi3 on this also.

6, Is there anything I should steer clear of?.
Japanese imports that have been run on the wrong fuel!

They are the main questions I need answering before I can make a decision
Whew. It's going to be very difficult to find a car that satisfies your need to have the same sort of performance as your old one within the new body shape for the money you're looking to pay. As far as UK/European market cars go, the closest will be an MY03 STi PPP, which are likely to be outside your budget. Don't know what the MY01 STi Spec C's are going for at the moment, but that'd probably be the best way of achieving your performance goals within the proposed budget.

All the new shape STi's are six speed, and if you're talking about Paul/harrymonk's car, it must be a Type UK, as you can't get the PPP fitted to an import.

HI,

Mine - my02 sti ppp is a UK car. Personal thing, but a Jap import was difficult to finance and insure for me .

Salesman in the dealer said it would run fine on UL , however everyone else I know runs on Optimax. I don't think the UK cars need an additive.

I also know it is fairly easy to take the PPP version from 262bhp to your 300 bhp requirement - I'm sure you can find out exactly how on this board - plenty of people are running modified cars.
