Default Tell me ive done the right thing.

Hi peeps,

Just bought a 93 WRX privately for cash. The scooby mechanic checked it out and it needs some TLC including

Oxy sensor
New o/s headlamp lense
small paintwork bits and pieces (no rust)
Brake disks n pads
Power Steering leak
Springs reseating.
Missing aircon
90,000 KM on clock (although speedo doesnt work at present)

Have I got a bargain for £3500? or an absolute dog?

a good base for a fine car me thinks!
cheap enough if ur handy with the old spanners.

don't know where he got 1k to sort it from but off the top of my head

Oxy sensor about £150
New o/s headlamp lense scrapyard job
small paintwork bits and pieces (no rust)
Brake disks n pads £150 for standard stuff
Power Steering leak you can get stuff that 'may' cure the leak that just pours in.
Springs reseating. get the trolly jack out
Missing aircon do u really need it in britian
90,000 KM on clock (although speedo doesnt work at present) not really bothered about mileage!!!!!!!!!

well from my experence anyway!

You should be able to pick up an A/C unit from grade a hopefully, fitting may be a problem though (was this standard on the wrx in 93?)

At least you've got the newer version of the classic bumper with it and the orange wedges have been colour coded

Sounds like normal wear & tear to me, doesn't sound like the car's been neglected at all....

Oxy sensor - OE is around £150, but can get a pattern part for around £30 to £40
New o/s headlamp lense - scrappy
small paintwork bits and pieces (no rust) - clean & polish. Cars are rpone to stone chips on the lower part of the doors. Bonnet is ally, so won't rust.
Brake disks n pads - depends on what you want to buy!
Power Steering leak - from the tank? If so, they all weep a little bit. A new bellows for the rack is around £30
Springs reseating - lift the car and reseat?
Missing aircon - not fitted to all WRXs, so probably has never had it?
90,000 KM on clock - 56k miles, not bad for a 10 year old car?!

I can tell it had aircon because the compressor wheel is still there, although the rest of the piping in the engine is conspicous by its absence. Not that im really arsed about aircon !

Did anyone notice the new style front bumper on it? You might consider doing the rest of the face lift... (lights, grill and bonnet...)

A whole set of brake discs and pads can be had for around £300, maybe less depending on what you want.

I'd not worry about the aircon unless you get too hot in the car.

Doesn't look a bad buy. I'm sure you'll have it right in no time

A top-of -the-range Vauxhall Cavalier of the same year with about the same original purchase price is worth about £400. So, yeah, you can't really go wrong.

I'd be extremely suspicious of that quote. Chances are he's quoted you for a Sport. That's even cheaper than my wife's quote for a standard uk classic and she's 39 with 75% ncb. A Jap import has got to be more than that. You don't want to find out you're not properly insured if you have an accident.
