Default turbo in neutral

Does the turbo on a my99 imp turbo spool up/boost whilst the car is in neutral? the reason 4 the question is 2-fold:

1) will my soon to be fitted vta dump valve whoosh in neutral (intimidation points)

2) so i can check for turbo hose leaks etc, whilst the bonnet is open and the car is being revved.

Eh? The turbo doesn't, but the ECU certainly does, as the gearbox has a neutral position sensor.

If there's no load on the engine, you might get a bit of boost in the system, you won't get anywhere near as much as you would when the car's being driven.

Whether or not you'll be able to hear air leaks is a piece of string question, all depends whereabouts and how bad they are.

The DV should still open in neutral as there'll still be vacuum in the manifold to pull it open. However, without the same amount of boost pressure in the I/C, you won't get the same magnitude of "dump". Looks like you'll have to find something else to scare the tribesmen with.

I dont understand why you dont have the same amount of boost pressure at the same revs whether in neutral or gear. My boost gauge shows the same, although I'm not willing to rev quite as high in neatral.
