Hi,

Just bought a Impreza turbo V-reg 10 days ago and was wondering how noisy should the turbo be mine make a slight whining noise when accelerating hard is this normal? It seems to be running well I did a 5.5sec 0-60mph last night so it seems ok. Was running it on tesco normal unleaded for a week and have just started using Optimax the engine seems much quieter and since then I can hear what the turbo is doing easier. I am new to turbos so please forgive my dullness.

Whining or whistling ? It's normal to be able to hear it, but on a standard car it's not loud, I had to point it out to my wife before she heard it. It just sounds like a very small turbine (!), a quiet whistling, whoosing noise, rising in pitch. If your car has any mods to the exhaust down pipe you will hear it louder.

Hard to explain its a slight noise nothing mega and gradually builds up the rev range I have got a K&N panel filter and a stainless backbox would these mods make any difference too turbo moise? I really need to get a turbo guage then I can see what boost its holding.

Sounds like business as usual to me... In fact, I've taken to driving without music recently, just so as I can hear that very thing! Sublime.....

That'll be a female turbo you have then and may get worse one week in the month.

If you have a decat downpipe the whine will be alot more audible than with a standard catted downpipe.
