How much better do you think the sound effects would be if
I replaced the standard centre section with a magnex "cat bypass centre" (w/o resonator). I know many of you recommend replacing the dp but this option is too expensive for me at the mo. I'm not that interested in specific power gains just the noise factor.

I only notice a decent burble from the exhaust if the driver's window's open and the wind's blowing in the right direction. The drawback is you get bugs in your teeth.

As for noise during hard acceleration this seems quite subdued (from inside anyhow) until about five grand shows on the tacho.

ive got the magnex centre (without res) But also have a blitz nur spec backbox and this sounds the dogs but the decat centre did not make it any louder it just makes it pop a-lot when hot which sounds even better, Roll on decat downpipe

what back box have U got on at the mo?

probably because you already had the blitz on then?

I have the P1 bb with the restricted "neck" (i.e. the one supplied with the first P1s).

I'd luv a tasty BB but they're sooo expensive.

I own an STi UK MY03 and have just replaced the backbox with a TSL Tornado, the systen still runs the 3 cats on and the sound is Feekin awesome also this box is slightly less than the Firestorm which bye the way also sounds awesome. The Tornado costs 233 spondoolies + the dreaded VAT but well worth it and if you have a warranty its only a 15 min job to change it!!!
