I have forwarded this to a member of the Alpha Romeo Owners Club who has said he will send it to their admin. Great idea, I am right up for it! By the way, do u have a black 5 door with an exhaust the size of the Channel tunnel?

Great in theory - but the only ones who will suffer are the garage owners by disrupted cash flow - and they are not at fault. The only way to make it work is not to use your car and hence not use any petrol, otherwise increased sales the following day will make up for it.
Red Tony and the mad men are the ones at fault.
£35bn raised in direct motoring taxes, £5bn spent on roads AND transport. £30bn left for Tony & Gordon's pot.

Gary is absolutely right.
The duty isn't paid at point of retail sale, no more than beer, spirit or **** duty is.
They'd only feel the hit financially if you "never" buy that day's worth of petrol.
eg If on a selected day each month as many people as possible boycotted going to work, (where feasible and within reason), they'd be far more likely to get the message. Look at the fuss the CBI make every time we have the temerity to have a bank holiday, billions lost to industry blah blah.
If you just left the car at home and made alternative arrangements, they'd simply claim their method of "saving the environment" was the right one.
Apathy will win the day every time in this country. You can rely on it. But it's probably not worth trying.

Had this arguement before and I'll have it again no doubt. I think it is a top idea it's not really to starve the Government of revenue but show the depth of public feeling caused by the Goverment ripping us off constantly with fuel prices. We've got to make a stand in all ways possible.
Check our website and sign the petition if you haven't already. Please keeping checking back if the site is down. It is in the process of being moved because the present host can't cope with the amount of traffic it is generating

I totally agree with Gary and Barry - it's good to see people making an effort to stop the ripoff - I appreciate your efforts and you have my support.
Like Barry said, never getting that day's petrol will give the government more reason to put up taxes - environmentalists would love it.
Better to sign a petition, or drive around London all day poluting the place (more than it is already), highlighting that the increase in fuel costs will not help the environment.

While I agree totally that the 400-500% tax on fuel is somewhat excessive, if the goverment gave in to public pressure and lowered it wouldn't they just raise the shortfall by a different method?, the net result being that decent hardworking, taxpaying people like us would pay the same.
I appreciate that this may not be the case for those that do above average miles.

This will really p*** you off. I'm in the States at the moment (Denver). Out of my hotel room I can see a petrol station - the price for unleaded is $1.68 a gallon (not a litre).
They are all complaining over here because in some areas, the price has just gone over $2 a gallon (me thinks some people don't know when they are well off..)
Cheers
Chris

I'm going to Florida on Wednesday, so I'll let you know the price down there (yea I know, I've got a tough job...)
Should be Ok for the meet
