Just Got My First Scooby - Advice!!
Hi All,
At last got my first Scooby. It's a 95 UK wagon with 100k (Groan I know) but in really good condition. If the motor lasts me a year I'll be happy....
Used to belong to PaulEDS and then Liddo.
A few questions please.
1) When cold there is a horrible mettalic rattling which climbs with the revs but then dissapears around 3k. After 5mins or so it's gone. Not a knocking... When I stop and open the bonnet I can't hear it!
2) When accelerating - sometimes the car hesitates like it has gone off boost slightly.... seems flat for a while. Sometimes picks up and pulls hard again - sometimes not. Any ideas?
3) When idling to let the motor cool - I can hear water gurgling etc under the dash. Is this normal/OK?
4) When driving (even real slow) there seems to be a quite hissing/whistling noise the whole time. Might be a belt but sounds more like air. There is an HKS Seq dump valve but surely that would make no noise when idling or very low rpm?
Any advice / help appreciated.

Update..
Yeah the car is real sweet! Just the noise when cold is the real issue.
Had it again tonight when starting up. Can't decide whether it is a tinny/metallic rattle or a rotating metal on metal noise. Very worried!
It seems more related to throttle position than rpm because if I back of the throttle I can't hear it - if I push in the clutch and rev it the car I can't hear it. After 10mins it had gone or become too quiet to hear over the loud exhaust....

Source of noise FOUND!
Hi,
Just spoke to Liddo - he says the noise is the dump valve. Makes sense since the dump valve makes odd strangled whoosh when the other noise is present.
PHEW!
Does anyone know if this poses any danger to the car? Assuming the valve may not open correctly when cold?? Can these be cleaned or should I bother with a new one??
Cheers
