Default Porsche Turbo

Behind a Porsche Turbo (new one) the other day in my STi7 PPP and the geezer in the Porsche decides to boot it obviously wanting to teach me a lesson. Well I thought theres no harm in trying so i depress the accelator and WOW would you believe it from 30 to 100 (private road) I stayed on his bumper all the way.

He was definately trying so either he was running on 2 cylinders or there is little difference on paper between the two cars in that speed range. Does anyone have the figures.

Real world driving never replicates the figures on paper........

So i have no doubt it happened.

I have a Saxo VTS and was worried by a mondeo the other day..........(not a quick one)

Maybe he started accelerating earlier.maybe not......but I know i wasnt much faster!! And on paper I should have been.

Rofl, dreamer !

My STi7-PPP was blitzed by a 911 Turbo, a good 10-15 cars ahead by the time I hit 120mph.

Dream on...

420bhp/413lbft, 4wd, 1540kg, ~10secs 0-100, so something wasn't right if an STi7 PPP could genuinely stick with him.

Were you sure it was a turbo? You can get the N/A Porkers with the turbo type body kit, and a Carrera 4 at 316bhp/273lbft and same weight as an STi would be pretty close at lower speeds, although they do >170mph top end.

Got to say I would be surprised if you could keep with him. A guy at work has a heavily modded Evo 7 FQ-300, pushing around 420bhp - that really does worry 911 Turbos! Given that an STI 7 PPP is around 300 bhp and weighs more, then you are already giving away 120bhp+ to the Porsche (just purely in terms of engine performance). Obviously what gear his was in would also make a difference. Off the line in a straight race, a 911 Turbo would murder an STI PPP. 0-60 times wouldn't be far off each other, but after that the extra bhp in the Porsche would tell.

Good story for the pub though!

I think the term 'would murder' is a bit rich - where do you get the chance to do a standing start and accelerate to 170mph ??!! If it's down to handling or circuit - the Porsche may be a bit quicker but it certainly wouldn't 'murder' a well modded STi (bearing in mind the Porsche has had a fair few refinements done to it - so hardly a 'standard' car).

My thoughts for what they're worth !!

Get a 600bhp Skyline GTR34 for half the price of a Turbo and leave him for dead at all speeds. That'd keep you happy.

Went out for a blat against a 360 spider last week- similar figures to a turbo porsche.
I was surprised to see mine keep up all the way up to 120(again private road) Only then did the 360 dissapear.
Mine 270bhp 1200 kg.
Although the porker has more power it is also heavier so I can believe you were keeping up.

Snap.
I had the same sort of mess around with a 360 around xmas time.
(Don't spose the one you were with was a blueish convertable)

We were on the A3 heading north and we were both talking (shouting) to each other (He said my car "sounded well ****ing nice, that made my month lol) while slowing down to 40 ish.

Then coz cars were queing up behind we both said our goodbyes and put our foots down (1st time i'd ever heard one really open up, i thought scoob's sounded good).

With no cars in front of us we reached about 100 ish and i was well chuffed, i more or less kept up.

The 360 was a bit faster but not that much. I know if it was a 0-max the 360 would wipe any scoobs ar$e but on this occation i kept the scoob owners head held up.

Before anyone starts "ooh, you should not race on a road you bad boy" this all happened in less than a minute and there were no dangerous driving acts.

We were being responceable (apart from maybe going over the speed limit)

Cool

what are the chances of a STI7 PPP and a porsche 911 Turbo being on the same private road at the same time? there certainly is an awful lot of private roads in the UK!! and there always happens to be a porsche or M3 on it at exactly the same time as you and your Subaru.

These private roads can't be as much fun as racing Ferraris and Porsches on the public highway with other mortal car drivers like we do here in Germany

I knew there was at least one good point about living in Germany

I had a play with a 360 driven by one Rio Ferdinand ages ago. He was behind me in a 30 limit, and when we came to the 60 i went for the red line. He overtook me easily and pulled away even easier. I gave up at 110mph cos he was gone

MY99, full decat, Tek3 and a heavy right foot. My Scoob must be sh1tter than everyone elses cos i get stuffed by exotica

rb5037,

Was a blue convertible that my mate borrowed.
They do sound awesome when on the noise. We went down the A272 night before it snowed. Clearly scooby road
I was surprised mine was anywhere near let alone keeping up. Wouldn't want to race one round a track- Its got ground effect from the wing at the back underneath

On paper, a PPP STi is quoted at around 14 secs 0-100, a standard Porsche 911 Turbo is around 10. That's my definition of murdered

Don't get me wrong, Scoobs are wonderful cars (I've owned two). In the hands of a skilled driver they can be staggeringly fast. But don't lose touch with reality....

There's no substitute for bhp

M8 its good to have a dabble against other perfomace car drivers, so long as its done in the right place and time... do it against someone like minded and in the right spirit withoput it getting dangerous is what everone enjoys... Some muppets take it personaly unfortunatly! I had a run against a TVR chimera and at the end of the dual C we both had huge smiles on our faces and both gave a thumbs up... I was just trying to listen to it!

Unfortuanlty in the case of STi vs 911 Turbo... the porker helmsman was a little light on the loud pedal! "It may well not have been a turbo" thier are tons with turbo bodies just carrea 2 and 4s... from the factory...
A true turbo would have been dissapering at an alarming rate! the gap from 0-100 "as in the Auto 0-100 tests" would have been over 4 seconds...
to put that in perspective that's 178.816m less the accelerative difference to 100 makes around 150m A forking long way!
I've driven a 911 turbo once in Germany and it made my car look like a ford mundano. They are the quickest A-B car you can buy! if only I could afford one!
