Exclamation

we have been monitoring your cossy versus scooby debate for quite some time, and have decided that we ourselves as a respectable company would like to offer a challenge to settle this once and for all.

challenger:
reylands escort cosworth!! (need we say more)

venue:
a unused airfield!! more info to follow

date:
tba

awards:
recognised as officially the countries fastest 4x4, and a £1000 winners cheque!!

watch this space!!!

Hi evo

This sounds fun

If this is just going to be a drag race, it won't prove too much except that one car has a more powerful engine.

I assume the 'tests' will include handling, etc. Maybe lay out a course and time the cars?

Forget the cheque... it can go to charity, but I'd love to be involved in the competition

Regards

Simon

EV0.

No challenge will ever settle it once and for all.
The whole point of the REVS article was to prove that in 90% of cases, ie, normal everyday cars, the Scoob is superior to Cossies is most disciplines.
It was also supposed to show that Cossies have much greater tuning ability and are quicker top end. Unfortunately, due to the demise of their cat 4 car, this wasn't to be.
Your challenge would only possibly further prove this point, but I don't think many Scooby owners would argue with it in the first place.
You are offering a top-spec Escort Cossie which apparently can do 0-60 in 3.6, 0-100 in 8.1 and a 185mph top speed. Impressive figures. Is this on a road car? If so, perhaps you should have been the cat 4 car!
At the end of the day, most Scooby owners have normal Scoobs, and most Cossie owners have mildly modified Cossies. In these categories the Cossie will never stand a chance.
I would be interested to see if there is a Scoob capable of competing fairly against you. On power figures there won't be, but we've already proved that Scoobs are capable of destroying Cossies with considerably more power anyway.
If you want to get really pedantic, we could simply say that the Escort Cossie and the Focus Cossie have both been trounced regularly by the Subaru WRC car, so at the highest level of competition in which the cars were designed to run, the Cossie loses out anyway.
Besides, you mention the title of 'countries fastest 4x4', which as someone else has already said would probably go to a Skyline.
Still, well done for trying to prove a point that nobody's arguing with!

we are not talking just about straight-line speed and lap times, what we wanna do is lacteral g times, braking times, time to overtake a slow moving vehicle, along with standing kilometre times, standing quarter times, 0-60mph, 0-100mph the full works so that we can understand what what car is better at doing what yes!!!
please i will explain more when the time gets nearer, one thing though we will be looking at around 10 cars per make or car, so if you can get 10 excellent!!

stef ive heard all about you my friend that escort is a road car for sure with road tyres thats all im gonna say at the present time!
bye for now

As with all of this stuff, it depends a lot on the road surface & the tyres. However, I believe that on road tyres and a road surface, the Scooby can pull above 0.9g (where 1g is the pull we feel towards the Earth) which is pretty damn impressive! Would be surprised if the Evo couldn't match it though.

As pointed out, the Scooby is not a drag-racer, it's best at the twisty-windy stuff. 0-60mph just proves who cares less about their gearbox. I would hope that the test would involve speeds through multiple corners and a slalom test.

As for comparing modified cars, how many parts can you change before it no longer counts as a meaningful comparison?

The Impreza was measured at 1.15 g (standard MY00) on the Ring (Galgenkopf, 133 km/h) and 1.0 g (163 km/h) in Hockenheim, which is pretty impressive considering the small-ish tyres.

In that case, I'll see if Jensen Button would be willing to turn up in the Williams Renault Espace F1. That should prove conclusively that a 7-seater MPV is far and away the fastest production car in the world!

Rowan,
As much as I would love to believe you have sorted this, I can't - as everything else you say is just a load of bull.

Next time I see Martin, I will ask him if you have approached him to offer his car and if he knows that you are betting £1k of his money!
LOL

Eh? 500bhp isn't a huge amount of power! Why, that's barely a starter-motor's worth. Hardly worth it really. Come back when you have a real challenge...

Is this evo bloke Rowan from the RS board or someone else?

evo vi (Rowan).
If you love Cossies so much why are you called evo vi?
Any chance you can bring this car to a track day? I'd love to see it.

Stef.

Hmmm, aren't there a few road legal "metro" 6r4's still kicking around that would consume said Escort?

Been a long time since I saw one being prepped at R.E.D, but I think the figures were quite impressive.

Anyway, I reckon that scottish bloke's Lemon skyline would be a contender here.

For those concerned im not this rowen bloke from the rs owners b b, never heard of him, and buy the sounds of it don't want to either.
Lets get back to business and stop trying to assume things of people you dont even know ok lads!! If you must know my name, if it's that important to your lives, then you may cool me "mochan" or scot mochen as from my birth certificate.
What we are proposing is more along the lines of a "driven" or "autocar" test drive, where they test every aspect from the cars concerned, i.e. handling, braking, fuel economy, insurance, performance, looks inside and out and street cred the full works!!
I will post a time, date and venue on this board along with 3 more over boards when I find myself!
I hope this solve any questions you have!!

Let's just run a quick poll. What score, out of 10, do you give this guy on the plonker-o-meter.

From me: 10.

I thought someone would of recognised my bu now! blimey ive had fun doing this in a few bb and ive got to say by far this as had the most posts!
basically lads we've been monitoring bb's like yours and other ones to see what happens when someone different comes in! all im gonna say is read the next edition of evo mag and max power for you my writeup on your behaviour in here!!
anyways going back to the car seen, you lot carry on with your scoobies good luck fellas see you lata! '

Must admit as I posted earlier I thought that you were the Evodick from that earlier post.

You ended up telling us that your post about the sprint was research for an article in Evo, didnt see it this month!!

Sorry, but without firm confirmation of your credentials how can we not assume that you are a Bu115h1ter.

Question

This BB is attracting some real freaks these days : Splinter, Evo boy and the strange Turkish fella (who im convinced is one of the others in disguise).May be there all the same person???

So may be we should become more exclusive a bit like the free mason's and black ball any jokers that come along.

Just a thought (probally get the black ball myself now ..DOH!)

evo_vi,

It's always going to be difficult to be taken seriously if you choose to hide your true identity. Now you're continual use of plurals in reference to yourself/ves implies there is a group of persons hiding behind the anonymous "evo_vi" profile... do you really think that people are going to take anything you as a person (or alledged group) say seriously?

Go on, do yourself a favour and either unmask yourself/ves or stop posting this anonymous time-wasting wind-up stuff.

Have a nice day.

Rowan,
I obviously do know everything, as I spotted what a sheister you were from the start, as to owning everything - I'm working on it

Stef,
This guy is a moron, how can ANYONE take him seriously. He must lead a very sad existence to do this kind of thing. I almost feel sorry for him, but then again he brings it on himself, so maybe not...

Martin's car is indeed awesome, makes even Francis' car seem slow. Unfortunately, he builds cars like that for a living which was why we didn't think it was fair to include in the shoot-out. And besides it is stripped out and painted in the Repsol colours. Martin was also responsible for the green Cossie 4x4 Mondeo and the Rover V8 Cosworth Escorts...
