I would find out as much as you can about the chip! They are regarded around these parts as a very crude way of upping the power. Installed badly puts your engine at risk!

My98 will be rated at 276bhp standard. You will have to run on sul or optimax plus booster to get near that figure. 276 when run on jap fuel 100-102 ron. Optimax + OB will get you close to 100 ron. If its been chipped thats probally just raised the boost so bhp is anyones guess. Ask the garage wot they mean by chipped. Do they mean chipped or has it had an ecu remap.

Hi Peachy,
Sounds like you've just bought the Impreza I've owned for the last 3 1/2 years. Did you buy it from Harlow?
No horror stories you'll be glad to hear and a totally standard car except for the 99 spoiler, WRX logo and the steering wheel, gear **** and cenre console additions - the last 3 changes were made after I parted with it (it did have the standard gear ****, air bagged momo and a normal storage 'box' in the centre but I saw the changes the seller had made on their website). It's been well looked after, always run on super unleaded or Optimax and never crashed or stolen.
Oh yeah and just to agree with what's already been said on here it's got a twin exhaust and 276 bhp (280ps) as standard and it has not been chipped unless this was done by the seller but I doubt it very much as they are not a Subaru specialist. Also you may be interested to know that it's got 240 lbft torque. The only mods I made (and removed before part ex) were a Magnex back box and straight through centre and a Piper Cross induction kit (never had any MAF sensor problems before anyone says anything as this problem is much more common on later cars). These are the first kind of mods to go for if you want a fairly cheap performance gain with some great sounds to go with it. Enjoy your new car!
