Unhappy

Hi all,
go easy on me as i am a new boy

I have just bought a 2001 scoob WRX it is standard apart from a mongoose stainless exhaust. The engine sensor light has come on and i am going to a scoob garage for them to look at.However i have been told that it is probably the lamva(don't know how u spell it)sensor in the exhaust is probably causing the problem.I don't want to take the exhaust off so has anyone got any ideas Please how i can stop it happening again?????
Thx Mike
