Question

ok chaps,
need some info, my MY97 is fitted with a Blitz Nur spec zorst and centre section, it has just (yesterday)now been de-catted.

Question, what is the max noise level allowed before i become a pain in the **** to my neighbours ?

also where can i go to get it tested, with and without the bung so i know where i stand ??

Reason being i live in a quiet little cul-de-sac and cos i work nights and come home early in the morning,i just plod onto the crescent, but wait the few minutes to warm down before putting her to bed in the garage.
pls bear in mind i only goto work in her 1 day a week, the rest of the time i use the wifes escort, scooby stays in the garage untill weekends..well mostly anyway
But now some fooking tw@t of a neighbour has complained to the council rgds me revving the engine outside my house (and yes i know who it is)which is a load of tosh, as i know its a quiet crescent only 10 houses on there and i don't wish to upset anyone, but this just bugs the **** outta me why haven't they got the ***** to knock on my door and say it to my face.
It's not as if im gonna smash their face in and rip there eye's out there sockets and burn down there house or owt stuoid like that

awaiting ur excellent suggestions in sorting this little problem out

Without the bung in, you will definitely be above the legal limit (i got pulled over yesterday for it). If you get the police asking aboiut it, they will issue a defect notice, and you will have the get the exhaust tested at an MOT test centre (handy if you have a friendly one), get them to stamp the defect notice, and give it in to the police with a sly grin!

Luckily, I have asked all my neighbours and none of them mind at all, although if it were a problem to any of them, i would put the bung in on the days that I go to work early/come home late.

Hiya Dazza, here's what I did.

1)Warm down before you get home, that way you can stop the car and turn it straight off
2)Talk to the neighbours about it at every opportunity, let them get to know you and so they can see that you are an enthusiast and not a thug and teach them why the car makes that noise naturally
3)Try and follow a routine. I always leave my house at a specific time, some neighbours even use me as thier alarm clock and i get aggro by text if i'm late. If i'm late at least 4 other people are gonna be late lol
4)Let neighbours see that you are not a nobber and that you are approachable, say hello to them and the kids sometimes etc. It makes it harder for them to just complain.

You should hear the close when scooby mates come and visit. The sound just bounces around for ages as they arrive, revving and dump valving everywhere then throb for a couple of minutes etc. The neighbours now look out to compare cars as opposed to look disapprovingly

It worked for me. Takes time but it's worth it. I even had a woman tell an estate agent that she wanted to sell because of the "Noisy Car" across the road. I get on with her now, her kids love the car and oh yeah, the house is still up for sale

If they still don't want to know, **** 'em

OK, thanks for this, sounds like an easy thing to check, i'm wondering if the bung was in or out when i test drove it, and if it wasnt, THEN WHERES MY BUNG! certainly didnt sound too over the top, im keen to hear what it is like with it out now, does it affect performance at all?

Agree with Mikey.
I've recently moved, and mine aint exactly quiet.

But after speaking to the neighbours, i actually asked if it caused them any annoyance..but..they didn't.

One old one even said it sounded "not too bad"
Think it would be a different matter if you were going daft in it, but if you're a sensible chap, you'll be fine mate.

As you know Dazza iv'e got the same system and a de-cat (good old scoobyclinic) i had someone trying to punch my head in within hours of fitting the Blitz he was someone who lived further up my street and just didn't like me driving past even if it was slowly over the speed bumps.
I used to play guitar in a band and regular as clockwork got flak from the council about noise but before 10pm they couldn't touch you.
I only tend to use the scoob at weekends and i also warm down before i get home then i can turn it straight off as soon as it's parked up in the garage.
My street also has one of those people who thinks they own the street thing is you can please them whatever you do they were moaning to me last week cos they couldn't see the need for us having 3 vehicles my car,the wifes, works van even though it's got naff all to do with them.

the legal road limit on zorsts is 94db your best bet if you are getting threatened by your neighbours is go to any motorsport dealers and request a db test (decibel test) and get a written copy off the garage then if your neighbours report you to the enviromental health then you just show them the db results and your all clear.

Damm my exhast is well over that im running a full decat with a Firestorm back box easily 110db !!! i have have no complaints from my neighbours yet but as already said i do warm down on the way home so the time outside the house is minimal . Any way it is not much different than some of the old wrecks that travel the roads that make more noise because they are getting revved to keep them going.

So if they complain be polite but let them know

"THE CARS HERE TO STAY GET USED TO IT "

I don't believe that its just the exhaust that makes them think you are a pain in the a**e !!!!!!

The colour RED also springs to mind

I have a blitz nur spec r on MY99 and have had complaints off one of my neighbours, i just laughed at him as he was going crazy and couldnt even get his words right!!!!

If this exhaust makes are cars over the db limit then how on earth do TVR get away with all their cars??? They must be well over??

Eddoe, have you measured your limit?

I believe the TVR is illegal ar around 100/103db.

My Blitz Nur Spec R with H+S downpipe was 118db.

Quite a big difference but i love it

i heard the legal limit was 103db luckily the estate im on is quite openish but i usually crawl in and warm down before i get home, why not have a scooby meet at your house that could push him over the edge
