where do main dealers get parts from
#1
Waiting for a new UK gearbox, "on back order" blah blah. Was thinking of giving "them" whoever they are a ring myself. Any ideas? Dealer is in the North West if that helps.

Ah I wish I knew, closely guarded secrets and all that...
Depends entirely what car you drive- If u find out I very much doubt u will get anywhere. eg If its a VW the box could be made in Germany/ UK or one of their licensed factories worldwide etc etc.

International Motors aka Subaru UK have a big warehouse full of bits in Birmingham which supply the main dealers. IM in turn get the bits from Subaru in Japan who either make them or out source them to specialist manufacturing companies (or other car manufacturers judging by the amount of Nissan switches in my mobile)

Try phoning Subaru customer services. Have a rant down the phone at them and it might push you to the top of the queue when the parts do become available. Works for me,(sometimes) I've been in the trade for 10years

And the bad news is the I don't think they stock gearboxes so they have to order them from Japan. IM usually use shipping to keep the cost down rather than fly the parts over so I have known a warranty replacement UK gearbox take over 6 weeks to come from Japan....
