I am looking at buying a WRX. It is a 'wagon' (ie like a hatchback) and it has the GF8C58D engine that produces 218 BHP. Is this engine similar to the UK turbo. Is it any good? The car already has an STi exhaust, a boost controller and also water injection. How much do you think this will have pushed up the power? The car is in fantastic condition and the owner from new has practically never taken it above 3000rpm so it's a great buy.

I guess the question is, will I be satisfied or do I look for a car with a more powerful engine(current car is an NA capable of 60 in 7.2 seconds and I find that a little slow but not bad).

Sounds alot like a standard UK Turbo's output, not sure how much extra BHP you'll get from those mods...

Standard UK's are quick, but not super fast, you'll get to 60 quicker than in your current car, and because its a Turbo'd motor you are looking at, it will feel faster because of the Turbo kicking in and shoving you in the back. What car do you have at the moment??

I havent heard of a WRX with a power figure that low before, I honestly thought that the lowest standard figure a JDM WRX produced was 256bhp in a Classic Pre-Facelift shell...

All the above is my own opinion and because of that, I am right!!

Best of luck in you decision mate.......

Cheers,
Grant

It's not actually a JDM car, it's a Hong Kong car.

But they had them with that power in Japan too:

It's a 1995 model with 60 000 miles on the clock. No previous crashes. Should be getting it for about 2800 quid! Bargain.

I'd be a bit suspicious if the owner has gone to the trouble of water injection and boost control, and never really driven it about 3000rpm mate.

Yeah you would think so but I know him well (have worked with him for 6 years) and he loves performance cars, loves his scooby, but never goes over the speed limit or pushes it at all. He is super sensible! Typical Hong Kong lad that likes the image but doesn't use it. It's one of 4 cars he's got, he favours his lexus IS 200 these days.

lol... My UK Turbo would have a prob if it was more than 7.2 0-60 mate!!

I would agree with Johnny, but if you know the guy and know how he drives...... Then it seems like a good price for it, so I'd go for it!!

Sorry, automatically assumed it was a JDM car!! :dunce:

Grant

Roojai,

If you know the car that well mate.
I'd go for it. No reason why not to if you trust the guy.

Yeah, it's a nice car, but I can get a unknown history 260BHP WRX for the same money and an unknown history STI for not too much more. I think getting the car i know make most sense but will I regret not having the extra 40 or 50 horses????

Thumbs up

I got a standard uk on 98 and had decat, sports system, green filter 1.1 bar boost, fuel cut removed, 270bhp on rollers, so for not much money you can get it quite quick. To transform, put Toyo Proxes on it. 3000rpm thats only 68mph in mine!! Buy it and tinker!
