Question

Im about to move to Nottingham to live in an apartment near the city centre. Its a nice development and there are other nice cars (well Audi TT's, GTI's etc) in the car parks so were not talking Nelson Mandela House here. However my lightly modded MY99 Turbo scoob will have to stay in the communal parking area which is easily visible from my place. It has the usual cat 1 alarm/immobiliser plus disklok. Having visited the place a couple of times im not overly worried but just wondered if there was any other flat/apartment dwellers without garages had any thoughts????

yeah im an a maisonette m8tee
fortunately ive been able to build a car port.
i was worried because ive had 2 stereos robbed from my van
[which i park in the public carpark nearby]
but touch wood ive hsd the scoob 8 months and no probs.
oh sometimes i sling a cover over it but i dont like doing it cos of scratches.also i tend to take the back roads to my place to try and stay inconspicuous.
good luck m8

Used to live in an apartment where I had to park on street or sometimes in residents parking. Had a few problems but I'd really advise you to get a tracker fitted if you don't want it to go walkabout. If it's parked in public view then IMHO it's at risk.
I read all kinds of horror stories on here and the only ones with happy endings involve trackers. I don't know the best make perhaps others would advise.

Cool

Never had any probs with mine...although you wana watch who you park next too as door bashers are the worst offenders...

I park next to a Porsche and is parked behind electric gates, so no probs.

Used to live in a flat with private parking where the car was NOT visible from the street. Never had a prob with a modified MY00.

That said - I had a Primera before and the story goes like this:
- Primera parked in its allocated space.
- Big white van pulls into car park and swings round.
- Big white van demolishes back end of Primera.
- Big white van backs up and drives off.
- Me left with either a claim / repair bill / write off whatever trade in value I was expecting with the scooby.

The problem was that the car park was private land and not "the public highway" so the police were just soooo not interested.

End of the day - Its luck of the draw wherever you park: home, supermarket, work, etc etc.

Park mine on the street. Leave nothing on display. Leave the service book etc in your house. Don't let people see you putting things in your boot when leaving your car (my sister had her windows smashed to get her laptop). And just pray nothing happens. Oh, and keep a baseball bat near your front door just in case.

Cheers! I mentioned Nelson Mandela House cos thats what Del Boy's place is called in Peckham. Didn't know there was a real one!!!

I must admit getting dents in the bodywork from door openers is probably more of a worry. Im sick of worrying about this bloody car!!!! That Clio 172 looks more and more appealing yet whenever I get in the scoob and hear the rumble I always think 'what was I considering that 172 for?'!!!

If you have your own space alloted to you in the car park you could always drop a telescopic security post in. that should do the trick.
