Question

Would the above be quicker for a similar parts configuration on a PPP or ECUTEK conversion on an STI8?

At a guess, they will be about the same. The ECUTEK starts to come in to its own when you start adding more mods, even changing the zaust etc, but if everything else is standard or you have PPP and then swap to ECUTEK I can't see it making much of a difference.

I suspect with PPP Subaru just plug in the gameboy and upload pre-configured settings, and with ECUTEK the guy will map it to your specific car (unless you do a mail order delivery job). So they may squeeze a bit more out, but not much.

...or I could be talking out me 4r$e

The reason I ask is because I am seriously contemplating either the PPP or ECUTEK. If I go the ECUTEK route then I will decat the exhaust, upgrade the fuel pump, induction kit and possibly spring upgrade. If the performances are too similar then I will go the PPP route and keep my warranty.

In addition, I'm keeping up with the Jones's, as my mate has ordered a 330 BHP EVO8 MR. I just want to laugh at him for going over to the dark side, if I can get my STI8 quicker.

Oh well, seeing as no-one gave me a decent answer....

With a few minor mods to the exhaust you can get the ECUTEK to about 330bhp, which is 30bhp more than PPP

Yep check out TSL's site they have a 333 (333bhp) for similiar cost to PPP,

I am going the ecutek route now, becuase I know the PPP will not be enough and the PPP is pretty much a closed door to future upgrades.

Plus on my 03wrx i will be looking at closer to 300bhp for similiar cost to the wrx ppp.

When you say closed door to future mods, what do you mean? Can I not get a ecutek remap after I make more mods? (I know more expensive route, but not bothered)

Yes you can effectively ditch the PPP and then replace the ECU with an ECUTEK or other and then ditch the PPP zaust. Bit of a waste spending £1600 on PPP to ditch it all a few months down the line, but if you have the cash to spare...you can buy me the following...

Hang on...I thought that the ECU is the same ECU but with a remap on the PPP?

PPP is an ECUTEK

Prodrive use the ECUTEK software to remap the current ECU. I don't think the dealers themseleves have this capability so the ECU is actually swapped for a Prodrive remapped one.
