I bought mine through the following family-run Subaru Dealer in Belgium in September. Excellent service, he came and picked me up from Calais Hoverspeed port and took me back to his dealership in Belgium when I collected (only a 30 min drive). Ask for Alain Knockaert, he is the son and deals with the import/export side of the business and speaks good English.

Alain Knockeart
GARAGE KNOCKAERT nv

By the way, I have no connection with this garage at all - only a satisfied customer. If you call him tell him Steve Crisp recommended you as I am thinking of buying another one through him soon for the Wife (I might get a discount!)

Let us know if you end up importing and from who.

I can also recommend Gertjan Van der Velde. He always replies to any questions and is very helpful.

Bought my WRX03 from him back in May.

Drop him a line or ring him up, his English is excellent. Mention my name too!

Andy.

About £15,500 before the tracker, CAT1 and road tax (depending on exchange rate)

Thanks danny...about 3-4k cheaper than UK.
I did notice Emperor imports were offering them at 16395 which is cheap but don't where their cars have come from? Motorpoint's are the same price but are from Malta, not in the EU which means no Subaru warranty.

I imported my MY00 from Gertjan with a £5500 saving. I looked at getting an MY03 EU import but with the exchange rates at the moment its not really worth doing. UK cars are available for £18500 ish with no p/x I believe. I think you will find Emperors prices are based on the exchange rate at beginning of this year.

Cheers,

Ian.

Again, another vote for Gertjan - I got my MY00 from him. For my MY03 wagon, I bought from a UK franchised dealer and after all was said and done there was less then a few hundred quid in it... Plus I needed the car quicker than 5 months

M, Just noticed you are "up North".

try e-mailing Ian Armstrong on

ian@stanpalmersubaru.co.uk or phoning 01228 525051

No prizes for guessing that they are a Subaru dealer but you might be surprised They look after my Dutch "Import" with mods hopefully to 300 +BHP in the new year (the Bob Rawle Magic)

there seems to be less than a grand between UK cars and Euro imoports. uk dealers are willing to sell their cars cheaper and the stronger euro has knackered any significant savings.

watch out on servicing as well if you stick with dealers for warranty they do 7.5kmiles per service for EU cars
and uk ones are on 10k
so dont forget to factor in long term costs for that...

can understand why they do it... but dont like the reason as there is no mechanical justification

I have an EU import (Dutch) and the service booklet gives intervals of 15,000km or about 9,400 miles.

I have an Import from Holland. The car is ordered specifically for you and they do ask for a hefty deposit (so you dont pull out and leave them with a right hander sitting on the forecourt) It is a full UK spec. used a dealer just outside Amsterdam, Auto Maarschalk and is located at Velsenbroek. The guy speaks very good English and is very helpful. I saved around £6k (3 years ago) after registering and vat. If you want more info post and I will be happy to pass on all info.
Cheers

is there a way to get one without paying vat??

i contacted the guy recommended in the thread his reply was

Do you wanted to buy a Dutch STI or a UK STI.
With a Dutch STI I can help you, but with a UK STI I can not help you.
On a UK car is always 5 till 6 months delivery time.

when i asked the difference with a dutch one, its left hand drive lol

I used to import quite a lot of Subaru Impreza's to the UK. The last cars I imported for both traders and customers were MY03 cars ordered at a price of 21250.00 Euro's so if we do the maths using todays Euro rate of 1.42 achievable:-

21250.00 / 1.42
= £14,965.00 ex VAT
= £17,584.00

So, £17,584.00 is the price including VAT sat at the dealer in Holland.

Additional costs are delivery which as unacompanied freight to Hull from Rotterdam is about £130.00 inc VAT (presuming the dealer will be nice enough to drop the car at the dock for you.

Tax, 1st reg and number plates about £200.00.

Cat 1 alarm and Locking wheel nuts about £300.00.

So a realistic, like for like price for and imported MY03 Subaru Impreza is more like £18,215.00 OTR

UK Impreza MY03 can be sourced for approx. £18,800.00 and probably even less now.

laters

Whereabouts "up north" are you ???.

Just wondered if you had been to any meets or anything to speak to anybody ?? Cumbrian Scoobs / Tyne Tees Scoobs always helpfull beyond belief.

I just wish I'd met a few owners beforehand...then they could have told me how much is needed for "essential" mods !!!

Seriuosly though I would consider a Subaru dealer in the UK for a standard WRX...Everything comes sorted.. I still need to buy the locking wheelnuts for my dutch import which didn't come as standard........etc .

Midlife...

Importing a JDM car ?? ... Completely different..
