MY99-MY00 Differences
#1
Evenin all,
A mate of mine asked me the other day what the difference was between these two model years, and apart from the colour coded mirrors (and I've seen some MY99s with them anyway) I couldn't tell him!
So can someone please fill me in on all the differences.
Were there any engine changes? How come some MY00s are hesitant?
Cheers for any advice to save me looking a berk
Rgds

Think there is a change to the interior map reading lights and there is a change from 5 spoke to 6 spoke alloys.... other than that I'm unsure of anything else

Colour coded wing mirrors and doorhandles
Different style wheels
Different shape gearknob
Map reading lights in headlining
Variable wash/wipe
Deep Blue Mica instead of Dark Blue Mica
AE802 ECU (which is the reason why some MY00's are known for less than perfect throttle response, although a few late MY99's also have the 802).
Erm, have I missed anything?

Put simply, the MY00 was THE Impreza to have - and STILL is!!
It was the result of 8 years of development and gradual design improvements, THEN came the FUGLY ............. and the dream was over
The MY00's are the classics in the wings

Tony, the MY99 and MY00 instrument package is identical. ]
'97 and 98's looks the same from the driver's side, but is actually a different package.

Big thumbs up for the MY00, even though I couldn't really afford it I bought an MY00 anyway just to have the last classic example before that fugly, although an MY04 could nearly make up for it now

The MY00 is the classic to have as long as you can get an ECU from a MY99 installed.
I had access to both a MY00 and MY99 (wife's car) at the same time and cannot say enough how much better in terms of acceleration (partcularly midrange) and throttle response the MY99 was. It made the MY00 feel like a slug in comparison. Unfortunately as the MY00 was a lease car I didn't hink they'd appreciate me tampering with the ECU
Regards,
tiggers.

Getting an MY99 ECU is by far the cheapest option if all you want to do is get rid of the hesitation. The going rate for them is between £80 and £150 depending on whether you give them your existing box in part-ex.
If you got your ECU reprogrammed, that'd mean you going the EcuTeK route, which'd cost you more money, but then a TeK 2 would get you more power than going for an MY99 ECU, so to a certain extent, you get what you pay for.

Interestingly all the road tests of standard MY00 suggested they were among the slowest accelerating of all the UK cars up till then.
There were some pretty low rolling road results as well for standard cars, in comparison to MY99 and before.

Ello, bit of a 99 vs 00 debate coming here.
I'm actually being tempted back into Scoob ownership with all this talk, I think I'll be having a look about in the new year.
