shopping in Tokyo for STI parts
#1
hello, this topic was misplaced in"lighting and other electrical"
i am visiting Tokyo next month, and i would like to pick up some bits for my car, e.g. STI brand spark plugs and some other STI parts for my MY98 GTTURBO(euro car)
has anyone ever fitted these plugs to their car?
does anyone have any pointers for me regarding buying carparts in Japan?
all is wellcome,
thanx

ive just got back...and you will be hard pushed to find a good performance shop unless you know exactly where to look.
search out a shop called "AutoBacs" basicly there version of Halfords, but a performance center..how does HKS coilover supsension for £650 grab you, or 20" chromed alloy for £850 with tyres..lol...i got a HKS turbo timer for £25, an STI Fuel cap for £20, some other bits and bobs....go and see subarus head quatrers in tokyo center...awsome, they have a fully working cross section of the sti engine, all on hydrolics so you can see all the workings, fairly intresting, and loads of free promo advertisments, and they had a WRC car there for you to nosey in and play with...the other big names are close by too, Honda, Toyota and Mitsu****ty...hehehe
all the best

Hi trolleydolly,
As jay already said, Autobacs is pretty good. If you're BA, there is one in Narita town.
If you get rostered a Hong Kong, then well worth a visit to MongKok which is pretty easy on the subway from your hotel. There's a good few tuning/accessory shops there - TopRacing, Crazy Racing etc.
Good hunting,
Noel

STi's shop is horrible (unless they've done a buge upgrade recently). There's more at Super Autobacs Tokyo Bay IMHO, in Shinonome. And you can select from various Prova, Syms, Zerosports, and STi bits. Not to mention Cusco, AVO turboworld (the real one from Australia), and all the other big brands...
As for plugs, there is a full range there too.
There is a station across the street from it - Shinonome on the RinkaiToshin line.
Sorry for the lack of English, but FWIW here is the site:

Just my 5yens worth

Forgot to add, bring your best plastic, preferably fire proofed so it doesn't melt down
Have a good time - if you see a new silver Legacy wagon, 18" wheels etc with a big non-Japanese bloke drving it, give us a yell

Trolleydolly,
If you're in Japan for any length of time, it's worth knowing that Autobacs can get you any tuning part in a week. I do mean any tuning part. If you can point to a picture of something in a catalogue or magazine, they can get it for you. If they don't have the part in stock, they'll call the supplier direct. Bonkers.
I've tried this, and it works very well. I also got a set of tyres that they didn't have in stock. In 30 minutes. Customer service has a special meaning in Japan.
Cheers,
Flingstam

hello,
just got back from tokyo, the STI shop indeed is crap, i did pick up some items there.
Autobacs in shinonome was great, alot cheaper than at home!
there was too much stuff that i wanted, but i'll have to go back again,'cause the price difference is just about dramatic!!!!
