Sorry for the caps but im really worried
when driving my car 96 JDM WRX
I notice that occasionally the symbol for my handbrak light comes on
is this anything to worry about?
Ive checked the oil and theres no shortage of that
any ideas please, as im scared to drive it home. The symbol is a red ! like that

ie it looks like an exclamation mark in red
!

Could be a few things:

1) Low brake fluid level - check reservoir ASAP
2) Low brake pad level - check pads ASAP
3) Float in brake fluid reservoir is stuck which makes the car think it's got no fluid.

Brake fluid level indicator.

If you have ample fluid, then the float is stuck. Take off the cap and give the float a wiggle. It should be fine.

Happened to a chap at work, a quick wiggle later, it was gone!

What you checking the oil for if the handbrake light comes on??

Check the brakes, either fluid level or pad wear, most places like "kwik Fit" "Ats" "halfords" offer free brake checks (winter checks at this time of year).

How long you been driving with this happening, just today??

should be ok just give yourself more braking space and less speed and if your route home takes you via any of the garages mentioned pop in get them to have a look, your not obliged to have any work done.
