Get loads of admiring looks from the Automotive section

Get more respect because of my knowledge and background, but the car does help

Get loadsa complaints from the fuddy duddies when I turn up (Scoobysport Decat!!!) - I'm also the youngest lecturer in the place (probably).

I am a teacher too - I take mine to work also. The staff are a bit bemused by it - cautious teacher types etc. I work with blind and visually impaired pupils in Edinburgh so their reactions to it are a bit muted. However, the photo is on my PC desktop at work and some of the pupils with a good bit of sight have commented on it ie "That's not your car" or "I suppose you have a Ferrari for the weekend too?" etc.

I like the idea of a teacher being a bit different, in a good sense that is?!? I teach music by the way.

Tha MASSIVE wages teachers are on - I would have thought that a Scoobie would be a 2nd car!! ... with maybe an Aston as their 1st?!!

I see they are moaning about 'only' getting 2.5%!! What about the 3.5% increment you get EVERY year??? That makes 6%!! and if you don't get an increment then you are way up there in cloud land anyway with threshold and all!!

Pardon - I work in Scotland - we have a completely different education system up her, with a totally seperate pay structure for wage rises. 3.5% every year - mmmmm - not!!!

Every year our pay rise is disputed and we get it in September or October after they negotiate over 0.1% or something.

Yet again pslewis demonstrates that he has little or no idea of what goes on in the real world or how he should interact with it. But this is neither the time nor the place to enter such a discussion. In the same way that this isn't really the time or place to make inflamatory comments about what teachers earn.

I also teach and it adds a little street cred (as did playing in rock bands for 20 yrs on and off). They've seen a variety of cars over the 30 odd years - 5 Lotus, Merc, Cossie etc etc.

PS Lewis - that old strawberry - dont forget the 12 (or in my case 17) weeks holiday a year, and finishing work at 4.00pm !!! You need to get out more if you think we are paid a lot ! A second income is essential ! If you think its a doddle, you try teaching kids (if you have the necessary qualifications and skills, that is !) - or is opinion on this BBS correct and you are all mouth !

wrxmania - if you teach sight impared students, shouldn't their reaction be blinkered or dull, rather than muted - or are they speech impared too About 30% of mine are dyslexic or autistic syndrome disorder as well as ADD or ADHD but can't think of suitable reactions for them ! Suggested reactions welcomed !

Freak outt reaction maybe (depends on the ritalin intake). I used to work with Autistic and children with behavioural difficulties too.

Ho ho ho about the speech impaired - try getting a dictionary and you will see muted refers to something like a dull or unexcited reaction!!

Glad to see I am not the only one defending the job of a teacher and their income!!

I'm a secondary school teacher with a Scoob. Conversation with pupils is regularly about cars- they never seem to tyre with torquing about them

Bexlee - that's awful - you must be a science teacher with that level of "humour"
The kids try to get me talking about cars in lessons - sad thing is it sometimes works (esp last thing Fri afternoons !!!)

I've just hit 30 and teach ICT....Wish I earnt as much as PSlewis thinks we get then i wouldn't have to get a loan to Finance it!

My pupils think the car is excellent and we even had a 'cool' board in my room for a while with different staff cars on it + the usual fast cars.

Out of interest, what do you do for a living, (apart from belittle other peoples professions?) - sorry, I get sick and tired of the general opinion of this profession. What's destroying the profession, isn't the workers at the chalk face (no pun intended), but the management and their ever-increasing demands (a general UK business failing, alhtough, like us, I'm sure there are some good management out there!!!)

Granted, Education isn't the most prestigeous job out there, but it is rewarding. Please also bear in mind that not ALL teachers and lecturers complain about the pay etc.....

You could say that there are a few professions closer to home that benefit from high incomes Is it any different? (rhetorical question - don't need an answer)

I've worked hard for both the Scoobs(MY95, now MY99) and my other possessions (albeit, most were paid for by my other profession) Why shouldn't I enjoy them?

There are certain individuals that make it their life's work to wind up, belittle and generally take the **** out of other people - their jobs, partners, money, car etc etc.

Everyone will know someone that does this, and willeventually get fed up with it.

Pete falls into this category, but may be a decent chap when yuo actually know him. The thing is, they thrive on the bait being taken, so there is never a point in arguing the case.
