And if GM says there's a difference, then there is a difference.

Just came off the ecutek website & theres a graph showing that MY2000(AE802 ECU) have less power 200bhp vs 217bhp than the MY1999(AE801 ECU). Is this to believed if so I'm pretty pissed off.

I've had a MY00 from new. I've been running an AE800 ECU for the past 18 months and its a big improvement over the original AE802 - well worth changing if you can get one at the right price.

Ian.

I was a bit disappointed with the throttle response and ultimate go when I pxed a bog standard MY99 for an equally standard MY00. Fitting an MY99 ECU produced an immediate improvement, so yes, there is a difference.

Having had both a MY99 and a MY00 in the family at the same time I can state that the 99 model is definitely the better performer of the two and this was quite noticeable particularly in the mid range.
Finally proved this by getting the wife to drive the MY99 with me behind in the MY00. Mid range accelration was much quicker in the MY99 and she left me behind every time around the 40 - 90 mph range (private road of course ).
Regards,
tiggers.

Bugger. I have a MY00 and have noticed that the speed isn't what it was. How much for a My99 ECU ? Can this be bought cheap at a dealer ? Only asking as mine is in for it's next service this month.

Thanks for the compliment Misty, but rest assured that I am human and do get it wrong occasionally.
Gianni/Jpor, the most cost-effective place to get an MY99 AE800 or AE801 ECU will probably be either the For Sale forum here, or a breaker. They'll be very expensive if bought new from a main dealer (and in any case I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that they could only supply the '00 one).
Going rate for a used one could be anything between £80 and £150 depending on where you find it and whether or not your own box is taken in part exchange.
