The SECS monitor and other diagnostic stream driven products give you a lot of information that can't easily be derived in any other manner. It also tells you "what the ECU sees", which can be handy in circumstances where you are attempting to identify a faulty or under-reading sensor.
However, what they are not is a complete replacement for all other gauges. The nature of the LCD display and the relatively slow refresh rate of the diagnostic stream itself makes it less useful than a standalone directly driven boost gauge, and it is also no replacement for a KnockLink, or indeed a good directly driven AFR meter.
Once these limitations are borne in mind, these devices (especially if able to monitor EGT, oil temp and pressure) make a very neat replacement for a stack of analog gauges. Certainly a neat way to fill your, erm, hole.

well that explains it all. no offense greasemonkey. i have infact just ordered an afr and knocklink just for the reason stated above. knocklink is by far the ugliest of all ugly gauge type thingies though and i have to agree, although i've had the secs for only a month now, it's already helped me out a belter, when fitting me dawes and not just in the boosting part of it!!

Totally agree with greasemonkey (as usual ).
I bought my SECS first, and have since supplemented it with a set of Defi gauges and a knocklink.
The SECS has a number of very useful other abilities, including an optional shift light (vital on trackdays) and the ability to read fault codes and reset your ECU, and the ability to control water injection.
You can also now link defi sensors to it to enable it to read oil temperature, oil pressure etc. as well as setting alarms for when it breaches preset levels.

had one for a while now but wish id bought the gauges as in sunny weather you cat see nothing as its LCD display plus the display is breaking up a lot now (cant recognise the gauge as its all £££ signs etc)and ive only had 5 months, and you only tend to leave on the boost gauge setting(well i do) so????? but i still like it, a proper informed position on SECs

also, then, try wiggling the wires in the unit itself about. i found that a wire going from the select monitor port into the wee green connector on the alloy frame, wasn't pushed into the connector enough. just unscrewed it a little and pushed it in baw deep! it soon done what it was told after that!!!
