The ultimate placebo (see what i did there??)
#1
Well, Ultimate is well and truly here, out and about on friday in Warrington when I stumbled across the BP garage at Birchwood. Lo and behold, stickers and signs everywhere for Ultimate!! WOOHOO I thought, looking at the petrol gauge (usual position, quarter to nine!!!). So in i pop and fill up to the brim. £40 quid later i'm back on the road and heading into town. I went literally 100 yards before THAT thought popped into my head, 'You know what, it feels smoother already!!' How embarrased was i, how easily had i fallen for the hype? I don't doubt this new stuff is better than the old stuff (something to do with Ron, think he invented it) but i think in the case of myself (and others, go on admit it) it's a case of wanting it to work and thinking that it does. Now don't get me wrong, anything that stops MY97 from going pop is good in my book, but does anyone actually know if there is any quantifiable advantage to paying between 5-8p a litre more for fuel? Just a thought (perhaps i'll ring Ron at BP!)

Scooby Regular
Myself and several others have had a noticeable increase in Knock Activity on a tank of this Ultimate stuff
Not another drop is going in my tank
standard SUL was better than this

Placebo! Why???
Well the ecu on the MY97/98 cars take much longer to advance the timing and really utilise the additional octane (3-4 tanks!!) An ECU reset will take it to the maximum advance, and retard the timing accordingly. So unless you did an ECU reset before you left the petrol station, I would be surprised if you could notice any difference!
ECU's on the MY99/00 take much less time to learn, but it would still need time to learn! Or an ECU rest!

'Placebo? Why?'
A placebo is something which is used in medical tests to see if results gained are psychological rather than medicinal (i think they are usually something like sugar tablets etc). Therefore if a fuel company tells us their fuel will make our cars run better and smoother a small proportion of us will agree straight away because we believe it psychologically!! Guess who the sucker is?
Buzzer! Mines a white MY97 in desperate need of colour coding, you might see me flying down Winick Road or around Cockhedge (always makes me giggle!!). If in doubt i'll be the one with cap on backwards and scooby on rear parcel shelf!! (Work hard, Play hard!!)
