VIN
#1
Hi,
Due to import taxes (Norway) I need to know the date of first registration for my wrx. I belive that it is a MY98, stolen from Belgium and recovered and reregistered in the UK in 2000.
Can anyone suggest how I can get the info I need? Could save me up to two thousand pounds!!
Thanks

If the subject heading of your post is any guide, the correct VIN number is still visible on the bodyshell (stamped into the metal on the bulkhead behind the turbo)?
If so, phone Subaru Belgium and they should be able to trace it for you.
BTW, if the car was stolen and re-registered, presumably you know that there is no outstanding finance or other problems still attached to it?

That won't really tell him anything he doesn't already know Boro. The only way he'll get an exact registration date is to chase it up through the original distributor.

Back in 1998 due to import restrictions and waiting lists normally about 10 minutes after it left the dock .
Best check with original importer because all we can tell you is the model year but it may have sat around for months/years seems a bit unlikely but exact date we cant be sure.

Thanks for all the replies, I am trying to get some info through subaru norway, but not making very much progress, and I don't know who first registered the vehicle, will VIN tracker help with this?

All VIN Tracker will do (if you pay for the "extra" version) will tell you the year and possibly the month of manufacture. Same with decoding the VIN via any other method.
If you need an exact registration date, the only way to get it is through Subaru Belgium (or Benelux, whichever it is) and ideally for them to chase up the dealer.

Alan,
That confirms that it is in fact a MY98. Now I have to find out the date of first registration. The import tax is directly related to the age of the vehicle, as well as the HP, and GVW.
Will try to call Subaru Belgium on Monday morning.
Thanks again to all for the suggestions!
