A stuck up client (a real prize class 1 tosser) once phoned us up to check there was a space for his boxster in the office car park before he set off to come here - cos he didnt want to park it on the street outside.
When he got here he overheard me saying to the receptionists that he'd just bought the cheapest bog standard car that porsche do just so he could say he owned one.
He left the office shortly before I did so I went after him - went a different way home just to overtake him and pi55 him off, which I did, along with the xr2 that was trying to keep up with me.
I didnt even have my Subaru then - I was in a Rover 214.

One of the most important reasons why the Subaru is the better car as far as I'm concerned is that you can actually see over the Armco at roundabouts }
Low sportscars are also difficult to drive on give and take roads because you can't see over humps properly. I used to think highly of Porsches twenty years ago when only enthusiasts bought them, but these days they are just expense account hairdressers cars.
I agree that it's sad to see skinheads with earrings driving Subarus though...

snap Jen, but what I want to know is why do Porsche drivers always insist on drving so close to your boot? Is it because they spent so much on the car that they can't now afford the petrol therefore slip-streaming me?!?!?!

LOL
Driving pleasure? I've been driving my scooby for 11 months now, still can't take that damn grin off my face everytime i get in and out of it!!!
style: Aggressive! Nothing wrong with that! At least scoobies don't look like just about every other car out there!
Class: Yep, in a class of their own!
Taste: Each to thier own.
Quality: Not much to say really!
Organic shape?!?!: WTF? If i wanted to drive round in something that looks like a squashed lemon then I would but a porche! But i dont!
Cheap and cheerful can never match: hmmmm, 22B anyone?! how about Type R? P1?......
Buncha posh ponses!
There is more to it than just performance. Ok, Sub might perform better in some circumstances(eg wet roads) but when it comes to driving pleasure, style, class, taste, quality, personality, organic shape, ................cheap and cheerful can never match.

Come on now...
Let us not let envy get the better of us.
Porsche owners are probably a little peeved that Subaru drivers have a car that is nearly as fast (or faster) as them at a fraction of the cost.
Subaru drivers - please don't tell me you wouldn't want a 911 turbo - because then there would be something wrong with you.
Porsche's are superb cars, as are Subaru Impreza's. Let us agree on this.
People always like to hype the things that they have, and put down things that can compete with them.
Let us appreciate Porsche's for what they are - great cars.
The drivers on the other hand...

Also,
Let us not stereotype Porsche drivers...
This is what the bald headed, earring wearing label is - a stereotype.
Let us be big enough to laugh there comment off as we go round a corner at high speed, feeling that beautiful 4 wheel drive gripping the road.

Seriously though, I test drove one myself - figured that if you had to have a second car to lug the family around in, you might as well enjoy it. It wasn't blue and didn't have gold wheels but it was a great drive. Decided against it in the end because it drove too much like a Porsche and I already had one of those.
In my view for the most part it is a cost thing, If I could afford a new 911 then I'd own a new 911. I can afford a scoob so I drive a scoob. Bang for bucks scoobs cant be beat imo.

This is only the same sort of abuse that gets dished out to Saxo / Nova drivers on this board all the time though innit?
And to be honest, if I could afford a 4wd 911 then I'd have one over a Subaru in an instant.

Mayby I'm the only one, but I really wouldn't want to own a Porsche (or at least not a standard model one) for the same reasons I wouldn't buy a BMW 5-series. Most (not all!) of them are owned by Badge snobs who never drive them hard.
I've never, ever, seen a Porsche in UK and thought 'God, he/she's caning that' they generally get driven by Hairdressers like Hairdressers.
Rant over. Appologies to Hairdressers.

Agree with Pockman, never fancied a Porsche at all, I think they look pretty old fashioned, if I had money to burn I'd get an Esprit or a Diablo. Plus I think the Boxster has just made Porsches accessible to the hairdresser brigade.

Made me laugh. One wonders if the thread starter has finally met with a tuned-up Scooby, that's made the Porky look rather static...
Gold wheels - so Scoobies can have wheels in a colour other than silver eh? Maybe this P911 driver should look at the range of day-glo colours that are worn by Porkies? E.g. the CS 964s, or the RS versions of the 911 etc. Hardly a crime.
BTW, if I could afford a 993, I'd have one. Just thought this was funny - maybe we ought to try to locate this bald, earring wearing Scooby driver, and congratulate him on roasting a Porsche with a nonce for a driver.

I'm lucky enough to own both, a 911 and an STi, all I will say is this, name another 4 door car which can be used as a family car for your kids and shopping and a trackday rocket when the feeling takes you?
You will struggle to get a set of golf clubs in a 911!!!
I read their post and was a little bit pissed off with the snobbery.

"The only bad thing I have to say about Scoobies is that they are too easy to drive fast."
Hmm? That to me, is the sign of a very good chassis, and the result of excellent design. What's the point of 450bhp if you can't use it without wasting rubber and spinning off into a hedge?
Best stop the mickey taking now, or they'll be crying soon...

I think they have a point - lol, let me go and have a look at some "meet" pictures!
Easy cars to drive fast are often dull to drive.
Take one STi, and one 964/993RS, drive them around the track and tell me which one you enjoyed driving the most?
