LOL smells like?? It IS BS!

The only time that the Timing/ECU could be affected is if the battery was dis-connected. Even then - it's self learning so it "tunes" all by itself

I have a Jap inport ( done it myself 7 years ago ) never had this happen. I often change the oil myself ? CODES are fault numbers easy to translate
mine has been serviced by Power engineering Xtreem scoob power station and scooby sports ?

I took my scooby to a local garage for a service who informed me that changing the oil knocks the timing/ECU out and needsa setting up at a main dealer at a cost of £40-60. Is this true?

Does like he's fishing for business! I've never heard this suggestion before. Smells like BS to me.

As Ali said "if" it did need doing the ECU sorts its self out, and even if it didnt its only a 5 min job of joining 2 plugs and sockets together under the dash and any one can do it.
Is this a Subaru dealer ? if so which one ?

It's rubbish - AFAIK the ECU doesn't even 'know' whether the oil has been changed or even what oil is being used. Unless the oil pressure warning sensor records an entry in the error list if it's been triggered. Curious to hear if this was an approved Subaru dealer who claimed the work was necessary.

It wasn't a subaru dealer. A friend of a friend. He said he took it to the dealer in sheffield, apparently there were a couple of things that turned up on there computer but they couldnt understand it as it was in japanese

Bollocks.

I also suggest you don't bother using this garage in the future, as he probably didn't prime the oil filter before just sending you on your way... (remove cam position sensor so engine doesn't fire in order to build oil pressure)

Cheers,
Nick.
