filled up the engine oil today and put way to much in about 3 litres.smoke absolutly everywhere managed to get a garage where they drained it but it was a nightmare from there.

they said to keep it running and put abit of power on to try and burn it and save the the plugs not a hope in hell the smoke was awseome it evntually cut out,i could start it again but it was getting harder and harder to start.

phoned the aa and got towed to southampton (subaru) even worse when i got there barely started and wouldnt move an inch so me and the bloke pushed it in while about 6 people watched (cheers lads)it was a mess they got into the garage and started work i got a lift home with aa which was very kind.

phoned them up and they said theyve got it running but its still misfiring but should be sorted out tomorrow morning thank god.

i nearly cried today for the 1st time in about 10 years it was really emotional hearing the engine struggle like that.

ok i no im a di*k so please dont go harsh on me trust me ive beaten myself up and still think im a tw*t

to top it off ive got a 90k service next week.

Hi
Do you mean you put 3 litres too much in? .... could you not drain it out yourself?

Red face

A bit like that feeling when you drop a nut into your inlet manifold

No I didn't do it, but I have nightmares about doing it.

Not getting a whole lot of sympathy there so thought I'd butt in. Changed the oil on my mk1 MR2 quite a few years back outside the house. Unfortunately, I either didnt take into account the 1:6 slope the car was on, or I didnt replace the filler cap.
Net result was driving to work on monday on M4, suddenly noticed that it was, rather bizarrly, "raining on my back screen". Looked up into clear blue sky and concluded I should "ease off the booze next weekend". Few miles later had plumes of smoke coming from car. Stopped the car, opened the bonnet, mid engined remember, and found my engine drenched in oil and my manifold on fire. All I had to put it out was a rather expensive coat and a, later, very burnt arm...Not the best day of my life. Also, all the oil had welled up between the cams and through the sparks...took me weeks and two trips to toyota to get it running properly and stop it smelling like it was about to catch fire.

Was paranoid for 6 months that I'd either blown the seals under too much pressure or screwed the engine running it without oil...almost sold the car because of it!

Determined not to touch the scooby now! However 'Routine' the maint. might be...

Sometimes I'm amazed at the lack of intelligence shown by some posters. Anyone with half a brain would know that shoving the squirrel down the inlet manifold after the nut will only result in it getting pushed further into the engine.

In these circumstances, the way to get the nut out is to put a piece of cheese by the throttle butterfly, then insert a small mouse into the exhaust pipe. It will crawl through the exhaust system following the scent of the cheese, eventually pushing the nut out in front of it.

BTW - Leviathan, no more monkey pix mate. I'll have you reported for racial harrassment!

My mate once put about 15l in an E type he'd forgotten to refit the sump plug so he was slowly filling the pit with oil

Another ,mate told me he'd set his aprentice on with filling a wagon with oil....a 205 barrel later he was still pumping away
