STi 8 - Does your bonnet lift ?
#1
Drove into a heavy headwind at 80mph last week and noticed that the bonnet was raised about an 1/2 inch at each front corner.
The ally bonnet is very light, but it looks like it is not stiff enough.
Anyone else noticed this

My Sti7 does seem to Flex quite considerably at high speeds, limiter in 5th + (Autobhann)
If you get up to these high speeds, with such a headwind you may consider investing in a Cricket type helmet to protect yourself from damage from low flying Scoop LOL

My sti5 is a nightmare for this
over a certain speed it feels like its on the safety catch!!! and thats after doing loads of adjustments - think I need some rally pins!

Yes have noticed that my bonnet and rear wing on my Sti8 move a lot. Had a Version 6 spoiler on my last scooby it did move at high speed but no where near as much as the new one.

My front scoop and bonnet seem pretty much stuck down, with no apparent signs of movement - certainly when I'm doing speeds that allow me to look at the bonnet rather than the road for a split second.
Though, yes, the centre of the rear spoiler does vibrate a little - but surely nothing to be too concerned with. Anything made of plastic that is that long and that size will surely flex a bit when exposed to 80mph+ head winds.
Can't say I'm concerned with either - quite a few people have posted on here how concerned they were at both bonnet and rear spoiler movement, and I expected it to be dramatic before I had it - but I can't see that there is any real problem or movement that I wouldn't really have expected.

Its not the scoop thats lifting, its the corners of the bonnet near the headlights !
Some rally pins would do the job, but I'm not taking the black&decker to it.
I would be a bit nervous driving it at its stated top speed of 150mph (on an A.B. of course)
The rear spoiler does move a bit, but the bonnet movement looked frightening (will try to get a pic on the next windy day)
Will be talking to dealer then Subaru about it next week

i,ll say it does , try it at 100mph plus and you can get your head under it it,s lifted that much, one was ripped of in germany some time ago, been told subaru know about but nowt they can do at the moment

Hum, 'one has been ripped off in germany' Now that is bad.
Ok so we cannot legally drive at that speed on uk roads, but it only needs a 30mph+ gust of wind to lift it.
I am worried about the long term effects of it bending, will it eventually ripple the bonnet.
Remember the mondeo's with the oscillating rear bumper, you see plenty nowadays of that model year with cracked rears.
Will speak my dealer next week. (What do you think Rusty ?)
