I have to say I was impressed - but would not go for the SL - there is a serious issue with headroom when there is a sunfoof!
Quality of the leather was good though.
Impressions over our classic (which is partly through rose tinted glasses as we sold it 18 months ago) are that the WRX is much more solid and the interior is really built to last. The acceleration felt less explosive than the my99 but seemed to have more urge throughout the range. Clutch and Gearbox were much heavier - the MY 99 was lighter than the MINI Cooper that replaced it!
The car felt less "chuckable" than a MY99 but at no point did I have any concerns with regard to handling, accelerating or stopping.
Would I buy one - I am not so sure - it is a better car but living in london and no Garage the MINI makes a strong shout for itself. Admittedly four doors and 5 seats are useful as is 200+ BHP. Also interesting that the dealer said the Bucket seats were no longer even an option - thus making the Euro import more popular and also possibly more fraut with Insurance "thats not a UK spec car" danger. He also would not be pushed on availability of any limited editions!
It is a much nicer car than the bugeye IMHO and any classic owner considering changing will be surprised by the build quality.
So its the MINI for a while yet and then who knows another new version may be on the cards!
