Why not just remove the scoop completely ?
I'd imagine that there's little air going in at 50+. If it needs to be retained for turbo coolant, then why not just re-direct the splitter or something ?
Particularly as they label it in the close up as 'intercooler scoop' when, as you say, it a FMIC....

Mark, the idea is that the hot air leaves the engine bay through the reversed scoop.
I'm not saying it's 100 % working (I don't believe so), just that it is less uncommon than you might expect.
