Thinking of buying another Subaru and have come across this:-
UK MY00
40K miles
FSSH
DBM
Has anyone else ever brought a stolen recovered car ?? Just wondered what other implications there maybe, for instance when I want to sell it in the future ??
Cheers

i've not bought a st/rec car but i did buy a bike. I had no probs with it until i tried to trade it in for a new bike. Some dealers wouldn't touch it as it is hassle for them to sell it on. I think it would be the same for a car. As long as you know it'll never be worth as much as a staight one and your happy with that it should be fine but hpi it and make sure all the docs are there to make sure it doesn't need reregistered as that means q plate.

As far as I am aware the only damage was when they ripped out the plastics around the steering column also some of the dash was damaged but all that has been repaired now.
I beleive the car is already registered as the car is on a W plate

For that money I can't see the problem. Is it recorded? I know someone who posts on here who bought a stolen recovered (but I think he would rather not say so I won't say who) and he got his car cheaper etc and I don't think it's on a register, there is nothing wrong with his car and no sign that anything had happened. Another friend who had his car stolen and got it recovered told me that the insurance told him that if you get the car fixed to the same standard you can get it removed from the list. Is this true?

As far as I am aware it has not been recorded, the only reason I know that it is a stolen and recovered car is that the seller told me !!
Is it a legal requirement for people to tell you if it has been stolen recovered ??

As far as I'm aware, you have no legal requirement to state that it is stolen/recovered etc However it is obviously illegal not to state it should a potential buyer specifically ask.

If it's been registered then a few £ should see it removed.
A trader would be required legally to do this but i wouldn't have thought a private seller would need to.
