I happen to have an Irish girlfreind complete with irish driving licence which has no facility for adding points. Can this be endorsed by the coppers? You can see what I'm thinking....put her on the Scooby regitration documents (to get cheaper insurance too) and in the event of getting caught by a speed trap, we say she was driving, pay the fine and carry on our merry way without any points. Is it impossible for me to be banned or am I just living in a fantasy world where we all ride around on rocketships? At least one person reckons I'm right, and I seem to remember a Jap. fella being caught at 200mph in a Supra on the M1 and not getting banned because of his foreign licence.

Don

PS. this is just in case, I don't condone driving like a nutter (all the time!)

I *think* it works like this...

If you put your Irish girlfriend on the Scooby, and she was caught speeding in the UK, she would have points against her UK driving record, that if they reached the limit, would prevent her from driving in the UK on *any* license, but would *not* affect her ability to drive back in Ireland...

I imagine there would also be serious consequences if you were the real driver, you claimed otherwise, and it was somehow found out that you were lying. I don't think the authorities would look kindly on that, as it would probably count as perverting the course of justice (Of course, I have no idea how they could tell from, say, a Gatso photograph)

Cheers
Alastair

Alistair

Its called "Perverting The Course Of Justice" & you seriously go to jail for it (years not months). I think it happened to a JP or a cop a couple of years ago.

There is also the matter of Fraud over the insurance.

But hey - good idea

I seem to remember that the guy doing 200mph in the Supra was banned from driving in England for 12 months or something. I'll look in Max Power as they had a article on him (yes I bought it, I have no shame)

These Japanese guys like driving at 200 mph and getting caught, don't they? Recently in a thread about taking photos of speedos at high speeds a couple of people mentioned the Japanese guy who video'd his speedo in his new Ferrari at 200 mph then the police pulled him and used it as evidence. Wonder if it was the same guy in a different car.

Banzai!

BTW, Don - nice rocketship!
