Question

A mate of mine is looking to buy an impreza - he has about £6,000 to £9,000 to spend but he has no idea which model to go for. Also what sort of things do you have to look out for when buying them. Getting the car in the air is no problem as he has access to a ramp at work.

Thanks in advance

Welcome BigTom.

There is a lot of cars out there that are in your price bracket. I think you'd be better getting your hands dirty and going and looking at quite a few to wittle your choices down to a couple of specific models/years and whether or not you can afford to run them (insurance/fuel bills). Then spend a while trolling through old posts on here (use search) and when your a little nearer knowing what you want, finalise your decisions with a few specific question posts. Many of the people on here have vast amounts of knowlege on every model Subaru have ever made and could spout fact after fact all day and night, but if you don't know what they're on about you'll just end up in Homer mode. I've been pinching snippets of info from here for several months now and am getting close to knowing what I want, but it'll be a few more months 'til I buy. You could also try going along to one of the many "meets" which occur allover the place, all the time. Speak to people face to face. There is a lot to learn, and a lot of mistakes that could prove very costly along the way. Check out the ForSale section on here, alot of the cars will have been "loved" but driven hard. As long as they've been loved enough (servicing etc) they should be fine purchases.

A failure to prepare, is to prepare for failure.

Hi Corradoboy,

"A failure to prepare, is to prepare for failure."

Been reading the big book of Confucious Greatest Sayings Mate?

Can't think of anything profound, so how about:-

"Man who tell one too many light bulb jokes soon burn out."

or "Man who keep feet firmly on ground have trouble putting on pants."

or even "Man with one chopstick go hungry."

Cheers, HB.
