Question

I've owned the Scoob for over a year now, and not once have I had a problem with the alarm. Yet today, with it parked (same place as usual) at work, the bl**dy alarm keeps going off.

Yet when I go look at the car, no flies in it (too hot) and all the doors are closed properly.

Then, because the doors have been open for a while, allowing the interior to cool off a bit, the alarm doesn't go off again for a while.

Anyone else had problems with temperature setting off the alarm, or is it something else completely?

if you leave the windows open the wind can set the alarm off if u got internal sensors. If the windows are shut then I dont have a clue, never heard of the sun setting alarms off!

I s'pose it might be possible if you have very sensitive, pressure based alarm... extreme heat could cause the pressure to increase thereby setting off the alarm?

Lad here reckons it could be from reflective items in the car, like the foil from chewing gum wrappers. Could be - I have a new parking permit that (was) on the passenger seat. Moved that, and so far, it hasn't gone off...

Mind you, just looked outside and the car is in shade now! D'oh!

Ive known the sun/heat to set off car alarms before. If you have a Clifford, let the alarm sound until it stops, then again if it does the same. After the 2nd time, whichever item triggered the alarm will be disenabled.

Set the alarm but turn the motion sensors off. See if it still goes off.

The internal sensors work on air movement inside the car - warm air is more turbulent hence the false alarms before you let the air escape through the windows. Then as the car heats up again the air starts to move????

Sounds feasable to me!

Wink

The sun might set it off if it fell out of the sky! I don't suppose you'd hear it go off if that happened, LOL. Seriously though i've never heard of the sun effecting alarms though .Good luck sorting it out.

Depends on what type of internal sensor you have most are ultrasonic which arn't affected by heat we used to fit loads in house conservatories etc untill better stuff came along with newer technology

Yep, when your dash heats up it causes the air to rise which in turn pulls air in. You end up with the air rolling around in the car.

If it is hot enough you can get quite a lot of movement and I would guess this would affect internal motion sensors if they are set to be too sensitive.

I would look at seeing if they can be desensitised a bit.

Cheers

I had this same problem, turned out to be the bonnet sensor, warms up a little and something moves, had it re aligned and no further probs.
If you have the Sigma alarm you can run diag on it and it tells you what the last trigger was.

Daz.

we had similar problems with our scoob alarm too. We had it for 6months, fine no problem and it was always parked in the same place. Come June and nice sunny weather, the alarm just went off for no reason, always between 8.30 and 10am on a Sunday morning - we weren't very popular with the neighbours then!! It went back and forth to the garage where nothing strange happened. The alarm was eventually made less sensitive and no further problems.

Now I'm confused. Today it is cloudy here, and the alarm has just gone off again. Guess that discounts the heat / sun theory.

Any other ideas? Low battery perhaps?

Can dust bugger it up? I've had to drive through a very nasty building site these last couple of days, and the car is filthy.

Don't think there are any phone masts round here, unless they've installed one this week.

I might have to investigate the box under the bonnet later - never looked at it before...
