[Typical SN reply mode] are you sure he was racing? Maybe the car had a problem, maybe he was toying with you[/Typical SN reply mode]
There's nothing worst than not knowing/realising your abilities and your LIMITS...... enough said.....

Nissan Fairlady Z. Does anyone know anything about them? They are very big and *very* fast off the line, but I had him..
He was driving pretty hard. I just sat tight behind while he duked it out with a Z3 which turned off. We then came to a clear stretch and he was up the **** of a big merc converable. I know this road well, so down into third and I boshed them both LOL Most satisfying He must have been peed right off.
I don't condone racing BTW but this guy needed to witness the power of the Scoob!!

Fairlady is the JDM name for the ZX300, N/A or twin turbo. My mate had one before he went to Rockingham, not a cheap day as it turned out. 3L V6, turbo for each bank, 4 wheel steer, v. fast in a straight line but easy to spin. There is absolutely no spare space under the bonnet, how they change the clutch in there is a mystery to me.

Fairlady 'Z' is the N/A version
Rob.
My mum has a TT, dont get too excited about them!! the only thing that does impress me is the top speed, whilst on my way back from nottingham i had a blat with an old AUDI quattro in my mums car...
I was quite shocked at how steady it felt at speeds closer to 200 than 100 (on my private rd), what shocked me more was the speeds the Audi must have reached to leave me at ***

This site shows the 300zxTT as 0-60 in 5.98s and 400m in 14.2secs which is more like I thought it was.

Sorry I have to put an end to this and give some defence to the 300ZX.
The 300ZX (Z32) has 300bhp standard but crept down slowly in 1992 because of more cat converters and even more in 1996 to 280bhp to comply with new emissions laws.
The 0-60 is 5.2 seconds not 7.1. But the 5.2 is for the 2 seater. The 2+2 is 5.4-5.5 because of the extra weight.
The 7.1 seconds is the NA stats. Did you get your information from supercars.net on the ZX? Many complaintes have been sent to the administrators of the site about the stats being so far out.
Standard, Scooby v 300ZX, 0-60 Scooby will win. Rolling start from 40mph onwards the 300ZX will win, that is where the extra CCs, torque and the rear wheel drive come into play.
Round a twisty road, 300ZX has little chance, but we have more drifting fun trying to keep up.
If its a Fairlady its an import. If it says Nissan Twin Turbo on the back its a UK. All UK's are Twin Turbos. Not all Jap are turboed.
TonyBurns,
Yes they are easy to tune. Infact they are tuned down to keep with japanese laws. They planned it to be 300bhp and it came out before the 280PS Japanese power law came into effect. However put the basic mods on, exhaust, induction, chip and increased boost to 13PSI, (yeah increased to, standard is a pathetic 9PSI LOL) the engine will be increased to close to 400bhp, which is a lot of power.
I must say to unclebuck though. You did say you knew the area better so you knew where to over take. Good story never the less
nisr227,
I see loads of vids like that. It always seems to show one car smashing another one. I have seen RX-7 TT getting smashed by a MR2, then I see the RX-7 tonk a NSX's, R34's and Mitsi Evos. So I always take those films with a pinch of salt.
One car one the vid did a wheel spin at the beginning. Which one was it? Cos if it was the 300ZX that would cause it to be slower. If it wasnt the 300ZX, then he wasnt trying hard enough. (Always an excuse)
I have to try defend it my car dont I?
I must say that the stock 1/4 time is said to be 13.8, but realistically 14. Not 14.6 as happend in the video.
Right. I think I have defended the honour of my car.
Hope you dont mind me butting in

Hi Andy,
Im not really a person who calls one car because I own another. Cars are made for different markets and for different reasons and thats what makes them so interesting.
Subarus are based on the rally cars which mean fast acceleration, 4WD and lots of grip. Ohh and power but that goes without saying. The 300ZX is a GT car. Fast, topspeed unrestricted is 180mph at redline, smooth ride and luxuary. I can curise at 90 and it sounds like its idleing.
So how can you start to compare them fairly?
Different situations will be better for some cars but not others.
I could think of a race that would show both Subarus and 300ZXs up.
1 full tank of fuel see how far you can go. You have your STI and I will drive a Metro Diesel.
Thats why I always take these vids with a pinch of salt.
"Lets compare 0-60 times and 1/4 with a 4WD close geared car (GTiR) with a heavy rear wheel luxary GT who will probably still be no where near red line in 3rd gear when it finishes the 1/4 mile."
BTW!!!! 3rd gear is the best one on a ZX. It just seems to never end . It goes from 20mph and I think redline in 3rd is 110mph.
