I love you virus

Anyone know how to get rid of it?
Rebooting the PC starts it up again. Seems to change the default page in internet explorer to some web site with an .exe.
You can kill the process but it always comes back after booting up.

You can alter the homepage for explorer without opening explorer up. Just right click on your desktop icon for explorer, and then select properties. This will give you the screen to change the homepage.
Hope this helps

What a fun day in the IT industry
I was at one of my customers today, just after they had to shut down their entire Email system - for 25,000 users Dooh !
I am just glad I did not sell them, or advise them on their security policy.

If they ever find the little to$$pot who cobbled together this abortion, I hope they string him up!
So far the tally here is 20 dead PC's we're having to "baseline" again, and no mail service for 12 hours.

Are you some kind of RS agent revenging Cems behaviour on the RS board. When we go to this thread I bet we will get some kind of Ford genetically modified virus that wipes out the Scoobynet BBS.
I put a fix on earlier which is tried and tested you gibber, you RS boys will try anything.

I don't want to start a major discussion on this but you don't have these problems if you use LINUX! I feel sorry for all you windys & mac users today. I thought that Scooby owners were inteligent people with discerning taste?

swa,
Discussion started!
I understand that the virus *only* affects MS Outlook - according to bbc.co.uk. My tuppence worth of advice: [if you have the choice] don't use Microsoft mail products!. I am quite concerned that a mail program can be forced to send mail outside of the users' control. Not exactly secure is it?
The uni here uses Lotus Notes, hence we we totally unaffected.
Another nail in Microsoft's coffin, methinks.
Suresh
P.S. I don't condone the action of the to$$ers who planted it in the first place - may they soon catch nasty viruses of their own!

If there was no MS Outlook, the writers of this junk would focus on the next most popular email client......probably Notes based!
A virus like this is written for a specific application & OS - and obviously they're gonna' choose the application which will cause the most havoc.
I mean, would it have hit the news if it only affected MAC's or LINUX users email apps?! Or, indeed, Wintel users with a Eudora client.....

Surely it doesn't really matter who it does or does not effect - as far as we are all concerned - if you get the mail - DELETE IT and don't read it - that way I believe you are safe!....but I might be wrong *L*
If I got an e-mail from someone saying "I love you" I wouldn't believe it anyway - geeez....have any of you guys'n'gals seen my face!!!??? *LOL*

Hello,
I beleive that the virus can only be proliferated via Outlook as the VB code is specific to that address book. A Notes user who receives it could be affected if they open using a Notes client that can support the VB script that the virus uses.
The reson Linux is not by viruses in general is that no one can be bothered to write a virus for it becuase it will afect a limited audience, (Security through obscurity) Also Linux users are not silly enough to get caught!!!!!
