I agree, thats why I don't own one, or even more so an Evo. Living in a higher risk area, its always going to be a problem.

What are you thinking of getting then?

Who cares? These things are still very uncommon. I live in a high crime town, work on one of the worst estates in the UK, and sometimes park my car on the road.

It has loads of security, but if it goes, it goes - no point in worrying about it. If I did, i'd drive a micra, however don't worry, so I don't have to look like a plum

I've heard this happening with beemers, audis, and even vauxhalls. If you live in a high risk area it seems you are at risk no matter what you drive. The scooby is not the only car that suffers with this problem, but it's the only one that tends to get talked about on this board (for obvious reasons).

If you want anything nice in life, you have to accept that lesser beings will want to take it from you.

Doesnt matter what it is. Nice car, nice clothes, nice house, even nice missus, someone is always going to want it for themselves, and if they cant have it, then damage it.

What are you going to do, spend your whole life living run-of-the-mill because you are worried about what the minority of scum might do?

Get car insurance, get house and contents insurance and then give it up without a struggle if the worst happens.

Don't compromise your life for worry about what MAY happen. You MAY get hit by a lorry and killed tomorrow.

I've got a big dog, and always have a big stick close by my bed (perils of the job). Hopefully I'll never have to test my dog or my stick, but it might give me an edge if I do

We all say how worried we are about our cars being stolen and our houses being broken into. But answer this... How many of us actually take security seriously?

1) Cat 1 Immobilier/Alarm
2) Steering Lock
3) Handbrake Lock
4) Gearstick Lock
5) Tracker
6) Hiding Keys
7) Blocking Car In
8) Garaging EVERY Night (with garage having security too)

Im not going to even mention house alarms, deadlocks, etc.

But i hear so many stories of cars going and keys taken from houses, yet we still think "Oh, it wont happen to me". Then when it does, we blame the thief. Thieves will be thieves, its our job to make sure they DONT have the opportunity and if they DO, then its our fault for making it too easy for them.

Maybe a group buy on some top notch security devices should be sorted and FAST!!!

woooaaahhh there ...its not the thieves fault?come on this sounds exactly like the police excuse that you deserve everything you get if you dont have an iron door protecting everything and that old chestnut the girl that was raped... well she must have been asking for it.

Its ALWAYS the thieves fault....its ALWAYS the murderers fault.....it ALWAYS the rapists fault. In all these matters, in the words of neo...there is CHOICE.These people chose to commit these acts against people, whatever way you chose to dress up there justifacation,it boils down to commiting an act against a fellow human that they know to be wrong.End of errand.

You'd be driving nothing if you worried about this in Liverpool at the mo as they're parking up a white van by lights, pressing the button and when you stop either pulling you out the car or slashing your back tyres so you can't go anywhere and getting stuff out of it and this is in ANY car, micra or not!

Yep - always the thieves fault, but when you attack them with a nail gun and blow torch (I ain't done this yet by the way), it's you that gets put away and they get to try it on someone else's car while your in there, or even yours again.

I guess it's just a case of being careful, but not stupidly so. I put my car in the locked garage every night (got an electric one so I wasn't to lazy to do it), hide my keys and spares and have the tracker fitted - what else can you do

...its not the thieves fault?
I dont think i actually said that

I said we blame the thief, and we do, we dont ever blame ourselves for the complacency we show. OK, heres as example:-

Its winter, your cars cold, so you go outside start it up and leave it running, you go back inside the house for 5mins, come back and its gone!!!

Im not saying its ok for the thief to take and drive away your car but lets face it, the owner would be at least 50% to blame for being a complacent. The harder you make it, the less chance you have of having your car being stolen. We know all the risks, especially with scoobys.

Im just saying, if you dont have as much security as you can afford then one day it WILL happen to you OR ME! Its just a fact and until there is zero crime rate we should do everything we can to prevent it happening to us

Well, two guys attempted to car-jack my wife and I about a month ago and I went through the 'I'm going to sell it...' phase. The problem is whatever nice toy you buy, there is always a possibility that you are going to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I believe that they would have had a go at me anyway, regardless of what I was driving (well maybe not a Micra!!).

From now on I will be more vigilant. I am not going to stop living because of this. What next? Do I sell my house because it might attract burglars? Do I stop going on holiday in case I get ripped off while I'm away. It never ends...

We live in a society that has sh*t elements and there is nothing any of us can do about it.

Rant over.

W.

oh man, this is a difficult one!
when i first got my scoob, i got all the usual crap from people from work "you DO realise it will be nicked within the week don't you!", i would also read stuff on here about peoples houses being broken into to get keys and stuff. as a result i used to have a dream every night where my new scoob had been nicked and i used to go to the window at work every chance i got to check on it. madness!!
eventually, i just thought "ferk it", whats the point? if all i do is worry about it then i am not enjoying it am i? now i just think, if someone wants to nick it then they will regardless, but i'm not going to sweat it.
however, if you really want to get rid of it, then maybe you are not getting the enjoyment that you once were to make the risk you are taking owning this car worth it?
