Hot weather
#1
Can anyone tell me if this spell of hot weather will affect performance? I have found a loss the evan with IC water spray. Dhave oes the turbo perform better in cold weather due to charge temp?

There have been a few mentions of this already. Yes the performance will decrease as the temp increases because the charge temp is higher and thus the charge density is lower.

It depends how hot it is!
Here in the south of France it peaked at 40 degrees recently and the car was noticeably down on power. During one long drive we entered the mountains and the colder air there gave a marked HP boost even though I suppose it is not as dense at altitude. The difference as we came out of them back into the hot air was marked.
Moral of the story, hot weather=less BHP.
edited to add: my car is more or less standard

What you said is exactly right Nacro. Lower ambient pressure due to altitude with lower temperature will not cause power loss as long as the turbo can still produce normal boost pressure at the charge temperature you would expect on a cool day. If the boosted charge temperature is higher though, the lower charge density at full boost pressure will produce less power. Thats why the Renault turbocharged F1 cars used to produce close to their normal power at Mexico City while the normally aspirated F1 cars used to suffer.
