Evening all!

As you may or may not be aware, I posted my Scoob(a mint PPP turbo, with Ledas, extended warranty, FSSH, tracker etc) in "For Sale" at only £10500, thinking that a fellow enthusiast would jump at it. Sure enough, I was quickly contacted by a member who was keen to see the car.....he had an extended test drive the next day and he loved the car. We shook hands on the deal, with him acknowledging that he was getting a real bargain. I was delighted to see my baby going to a good home without me paying for a dealer's summer holiday......

8:19 this morning.....phone rings.....said geezer wants the car for £10K because he feels that's all it's worth.....so I invited him to go forth and multiply!

All this really pisses me off.....it's the second time I've had this on here and it stinks. Most of us are decent guys who are into cars, but a few people on here give us all a bad name......it makes my blood boil!

Anyway, what the ****......the 8 FQ-300 is due in two weeks and the dealer is more than happy to have my car. The real irony of course is that the same car will end up on a forecourt for at least £11500(and they do sell them for around £12K) and the dealer will once again reap the rewards!!

dont take this the wrong way, but who ever pays the full asking price on a car?

brand new, second hand, on its 5th owner, you always try to get a little off.

If you dont ask you dont get.

edited after i re-read your post, as you shook on the deal i take it all back best of luck next time

I got a good "yarn" when selling my RA.
This bloke was going to have it, i already agreed and shook on a price. He even said that he had the money for the insurance (900 quid)
He then phones me back the next day saying that he couldnt afford it and asked me if he could have it cheaper still.

I suggested that if he couldnt afford it, he should look at a few nissan micras or somthing. The laugh of all this was is that the day before he told me he'd had a look at an Escort cossy with a view to buying yet the next day he says he "cant afford" my 96 RA

There are some that rip the pi$$!

Hello Deep Blue Mica,Ya,it's a right wind up when people do that.Just a suggestion, put your car price up to 11.000 grand. Then, you might get 10.500 what you really want.I am a retailer and know the tricks. But DO GET WHAT YOU WANT.Not a penny less! All da best,Man!!

Exactly what most have said. If he shook hands on the deal then thats it. Shows very poor character to try to get the price down after that. We had someone trying to do that on a house once after the price was agreed, and it was a very fair price too. We just put it back on the market and they soon changed their minds-took them 30 seconds I seem to remember.

If I needed one DBM, I would have been interested in your car too.

Les

Unless you get a deposit, it's not a deal (legally no consideration I think).

Whilst you are well right being peed off, remember every time to get a deposit, as there are plenty of timewasters about.

sulli's spot on.

If you strike a deal, ALWAYS get a cash deposit even if it's only 50 quid. Better still, get a larger deposit. If they are GENUINE, they will not object. If they do object, that's a warning sign in my book and indication of a possible timewaster. Not always the case though but, best to get a cash deposit. Mention you'll expect a cash deposit when contact with prospective buyer first made. If then later the buyer changes his mind, you can tell them that it you'll need some/all of the deposit to place another advert.
