Question

Just got my first Scoob tonight, and wow!!! It is pant wettingly fast. 98S Type R in Black.
A few noises though. I wonder if you more seasoned scooby owners may be able to help me with the following.
When pulling away in first or just after the change to second there is a knock comming from the back, noticed more at lower revs.
Also, when giving it some, just before the gear change there is a tinny rattleing sound.
Are any of these normal?
Any help would be apreciated.

Should be ok, after all - the mechanical inspection didn't show up that it has the well known rattling gearbox sydrome that particular model and year suffered from!!!?? Did it??

Question

I didn't have a mechanical inspection carried out. The car does have a 6 month warranty, so I'm not too concerned.
Should these problems cause any concern, can they be fixed?

i have the same model, with a small clonking noise from the back when you first pull away, i spoke to a guy who said this was due to the fact it had varaible diff. havent got a clue whether this is relaible source. i too have warranty, however check yours covers the value, mine only covers to a max of 500 quid.

i am taking mine to power engineering tomorrow for a check up.

MG,
is the back box standard? cos some of the aftermarket ones hit the diff!!
And the tinny rattling could be anything from a brake pipe on the bulkhead, to an exhaust shield!!

Mad Gypsy,

My MY00 was doing the same, and it turned out to be the "T-bar" bushes near the back axle.

Apparently they are prone to going due to the torque etc.
