i was behind and fto today outside amesbury going to sailsbury when i ended up behind.he kept looking every 2 secs in his wing mirror to see what i was doing and when a small bit of dual carriageway come i left him for dead he gave his all but i was already in 2nd gear at 4krpm so it picked up instantly and i left him well behind.he had an after market exhaust on so god knows what else he had but he got a good pasting.

Most FTOs are around the 180 PS mark.
Some (the 1800s) are down around 125 PS - I think the most they made in standard form was about 200 PS which I think was the MIVEC V6 (? guessing here....)

Assuming he was fairly standard I should bloody well hope you trounced him

v6 GPX (top of the range) 197 brake. 90% are auto's and have not a lot of go.
If it was a manual then it would have put up a fight, but anything else no chance what so ever.
Most owners are like scooby owners though (think they are the fastest thing on the planet)

MY FTO *IS* THE FASTEST THING ON THE PLANET!

Scoobs can take my manual easy, so can Mr2 turbos.

0-60 is about 7 seconds yeah, the autos are about 8 seconds. The 1.8 is about 8 weeks to 60 I heard

RLE - Was the golf left hand drive ? if so it'll of been a chipped n' pully'd G60 about 200bhp... If not, a vr6 or 1.8t transplant... loads of seriously (std. looking) modded mk2's up here.

Right hand drive mate (H reg) Red, deep dish alloys. To be honest I wasn't racing him or anything despite what he thought. Dont know what it was like in the early gears but put my foot down in 5th and was surprised that his had so much torque. He was round me to be fair to him.

Took satisfaction the day after when I saw him with his bonnet up at the end of the dual carriageway. Money well spent?? Reliability?? Nice car anyway.
