Model query?????

I have an MY98 Turbo. Its registration date is late August 98 and its a Reddish Blue one, obviously the best and rarest colour to have
However I am trying to order some new front discs and there are two part numbers, one for an Impreza 94-98 and one for 98+ This has thrown me somewhat as mine is made in 98 how do I know which one of the 98's it is???? I have been advised to measure the disc diameter which is what I will do.
However was there a change in the model during 98 production? I thought a 98 model was a 98 model as simple as that but obviously this must be an incorrect assumption by me?
Whats the difference in 98 models apart from the brake disc diameter?
Any help appreciated

It will depend if you have the 2 pot or 4 pot calipers. The later 98's got the 4 pots, whereas the earlier ones still got the 2 pots. If your car has 16" wheels as standard, the white dials and nicer interior then you should have the 4 pots with the bigger discs.
The engine's different as well, I think they swapped from 208 to 215bhp at this time, the older ones have 208, newer 215bhp.
The newer ones got the higher level spoiler as well I think.
I reckon if you have 16" wheels and the better interior then you have the true MY98 car, and not one that was made in 97 and sold in 98.
FAQ at www.sidc.co.uk will tell you the whole story.
I had a 97, and my brother in law had a 98 by the way.

The My99 actually came out about October 1998 AFAIK. the difference is that the MY99 has the four pot calipers and therefore different discs if you calipers look like this - (excuse the MY01 wheels etc..)

with the subaru writing on then you want the 98 onwards discs..

Cheers clubby, yeah it has 16" wheels and white dials etc. Christ if mine has 4 pots I hate to think how crap the 2 pots are at braking cos mine is bloody awful!!!
Just been out to look and think they are 4 pots from how my mechanic described what they would look like as opposed to 2 pots. Damn that means I got to buy the more expensive discs but hopefully they will be a damn site better than the ones on there now!
I am looking at getting the EBC grooved ones from Demon Tweekes, part no TGD729. Anyone know if these are good or I can get better for same or less money?
Somehow I think this might be moving forums shortly

Cheers Fizz now I'm confused as my calipers arnt the same as that. Surely tho Subaru wouldn't be selling a 97 produced car in late August 98??? There must be a 98 model between the 97's being sold early 98 and the 99 models being sold in October 98???????
99% sure you have an MY98 because MY99 wasnt available in reddish blue I ordered one and end up with reddish red
. So it will be 94-98 you will need i.e. the 2 pots. Other way to tell is the front bumper if it has three slats where the indicator is its an MY98 and pre 99 car.
This was my red MY98 check the front bumper the one below is my blue MY00 and has the later series bumper.
MY98 (3 slat where the indicator is)

MY00(2 slat where the indicator is)

I maybe wrong (sometimes) but I if you front bumper is the same as my old red one you need to order the earlier discs
.
Cheers

I'd say you have 2 pots!! If it doesn't have Subaru writen down the caliper it's a 2 pot
MY99 was introduced in Sept/Oct '98
MY97 and 98 are the same, I don't think they changed anything over the 2 years
(I know it sounds unlikly

OK here it is, bloody turbosport only allowing 100k files, I have had to shrink it down to silly size now so you can't even see the calipers

Any uploaders about allowing much bigger files?
Just to add I know it needed a clean, I was seeing what P1 anthracite colour wheels would look like on the front by letting the brake dust build up
