Question

Hi, All,

As you can see (due to the fact I have 1 post!) I'm new here. I'm looking to potentially buy a 2000 plate Impreza P1.

The car I'm looking at has all the goodies, Climate, bigger brakes, big wheels and loads of other stuff, and has done 26000 miles.

It's from a dealer in conventry and is gonna cost me £23995.

Does this sound like a reasonable price for a fully spec'd car, or is it a little excessive?

Also - is it generally the case that P1's are keeping their value? I don't wanna put my hard earned on the line for the ar*e to drop out of them five minutes later?

I've been told that they are "motorbike fast" - is that actually true?

Finally - if it isn't powerful enough for me, what else can I do to it?

Sorry for all the questions, but I really wanna know everything!

You should have a look a the 22B on this site, That's where my money would go.
Drive one to see fast?
The 22B or the S202 are the only scoobies better than a P1 in my option.

A local dealer near me has one for sale for 21k with the same sort of miles but without the brake upgrade.
Have a shop around as there are alot of 2000 P1's coming for sale as they are now 3 years old.
Yes they are still holding value and as the best of the UK clasics nice ones should always keep their value.
As for motor bike fast it depends on the bike and the rider but im sure you will be able to shock many a 600 rider.

24k sounds about right from a dealer, you could get a similiar spec'd car on here form 19k ish. There's a couple for sale at the moment in the For Sale section.

Scoobies are very tunable, 300bph is easy to hit for about a grand, tuning is only limited by the budget. There's a couple of Scoobies on here running 450 bhp.

The standard 0-60 time of a P1 is 4.8 top end of around 160 ish.

Good Luck

Red face

Flat4Fan,
Unfortunately, the P1 doesnt have "Climate control" it has manual aircon (as per fitted to classic shaped turbos when picked as an option).
The bigger brakes are good though (should say Prodrive on them but be warned that the discs are VERY expensive, ie 600 quid) and the 18 inch wheels can compromise the ride/handling a little
This car does sound like the WR version though, but 23k for a 3 year old car is excessive, even if you added these items to the car, you would have a couple of k left from a private buyer (and the car should still have a warranty).

Are these cars motorbike quick???
Well if its a 400cc then you can say yes, a 600cc bike will just leave you, so partially correct but they also need a diet of 97ron fuel (something no doubt the dealer has forgotten to inform you of?) and id check out the servicing costs and ensure you take out the extra warranty as a few P1's have gone bang (it covers your back for a few hundred quid).
Dont be put off though (by the engines going bang) as most of the time these were modified cars, but it can happen in the standard car too (so octane booster is advisable, and at 22.20 for 10 bottles its not alot to pay ).
Ensure this car has FSSH though, and knock the price down alot then you should have the car of your dreams

Tony
